Taliban “Shadow Governor” Killed By U.S. Military In Afghanistan

BY WILMOT PROVISO ~ APRIL 24, 2017 ~ CONSERVATIVE TRIBUNE

The Taliban just learned yet again the yuge difference a new administration can make. Unfortunately for one of the terrorist group’s top officials, it was the last lesson he would ever learn.

A Taliban “shadow governor” was killed in an airstrike in Afghanistan by American forces, the Pentagon revealed Saturday. According to Fox News, the target was shadow governor Quari Tayib of Takhar Province.

A NATO news release said the airstrike happened “in Archi District, Kunduz Province, Afghanistan on April 17.”

“The strike was part of ongoing efforts to deny Taliban freedom of movement in the area,” the release added. The strike reportedly “targeted a compound Tayib owned and used for insurgents in the area. Eight additional Taliban fighters were killed in the strike.”

Quari Tayib had been a target of allied forces since 2011 and was alleged to be directly responsible for the deaths of several American service members. According to The U.K. Guardian, shadow governors direct the activities of Taliban insurgents in each province. They’re especially powerful in the southern part of Afghanistan, where the central government has little control.

The airstrike came in the same week that a Taliban insurgent attack killed at least 140 Afghan troops at a military base, The New York Times reported.

The situation in Afghanistan had steadily deteriorated under the Obama administration, particularly due to the premature withdrawal of American forces — a decision that was almost certainly made for political reasons.

There’s a new sheriff in town, though, and it looks like things will be different now. Quari Tayib found that out the hard way.
