Why politicians like non existent or exaggerated problems

Simply put, they're lazy. Why spend the time and make the effort to try an deal with a real or major problem, when they can get us to focus on a minor or non existent problem instead? They take a minor problem, conflate it's effects, exaggerate it's impact, then promise to fix it. Dealing effectively with a for realz problem, takes a lot of work, and their efforts can easily and quickly be evaluated, putting their career in jeopardy.

There are dozens of examples of this type of malfeasance, but I'll only mention a few for illustration. Only 3 in 10 women seek an abortion, and only 1 in 10 actually gets one, making this a minor problem, but both dems and repubs want us to fixate on it. 90% of women seeking female reproductive healthcare, do so for non abortion purposes.

Out of every 34 violent crimes committed every year, only 1 of them is committed by an immigrant. 6 out of 10 felons serving time for drugs, has violent crimes on their rap sheet, making their drug convictions inconsequential. That means that only 4 out of 10 drug related convicted felons, have no violent history, or rather, have not been charged with a violent crime, making the case for drug crime reforms seem silly.

Here are some for realz problems, politicians do NOT want us talking about or considering:

1 in 3 senior citizens lives in poverty.
1 in 5 children live in poverty
1 in 3 children suffer from malnutrition
1 in 8 adults are homeless
3 in 5 Veterans suffer from undiagnosed/untreated mental illnesses

Here are some more goofy stats:

1 in 3 white adults addicted to heroin, started with prescription pain killers
1 in 5 adults is addicted to prescription/over-the-counter medication
1 in 8 adults are addicted to illegal substances
15% of illegal substances come across the Southern border

Most people in America, no matter where they live, want the same basic things; be able to pay their bills, put their kids through college, save for retirement, save for an emergency, spoil their grand kids, take a vacation once in a while, that sort of thing. No one wants to be on welfare, gets pregnant so they can have an abortion, or has a life long goal of becoming an addict/drunk.

Americans consistently focus on the wrong things - because it's easier on the politicians.

I agree with the fact that politicians ARE lazy! They wouldn't know how to work a 5 or 6 day week. They get rich and lazy shortly after being elected.

However, I DON'T think that Americans want to "make it easy" for them. If they did, Hillary would have won the election. Most Americans are DISSATISFIED with Congress' performance.
