Sessions Blasts Judges Who Blocked Immigration Ban

In an interview with conservative radio host Mark Levin on Wednesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said he was taken aback by the politically-motivated judges around the country who had blocked President Trump’s immigration ban.

“We’ve got cases moving in the very, very liberal Ninth Circuit – who has been hostile to the order,” Sessions said. “We won a case in Virginia recently that was a nicely-written order that just demolished all the arguments that some of the other people have been making. We are confident that the President will prevail on appeal and particularly in the Supreme Court, if not the Ninth Circuit.”

Sessions said rulings against the ban were stealing rightful power away from the Executive Branch.

“I really am amazed that a judge sitting on an island in the Pacific can issue an order that stops the President of the United States from what appears to be clearly his statutory and Constitutional power,” he said.

Sessions was referring to Judge Derrick Watson of Hawaii, the judge who blocked President Trump’s second executive order on immigration. The remark drew outrage from the two senators from Hawaii, who responded to Sessions on Twitter.

Sen. Mazie Hirono wrote, “Hey Jeff Sessions, this #IslandinthePacific has been the 50th state for going on 58 years, and we won’t succumb to your dog whistle politics.”

And Sen. Brian Schatz said, “Mr. Attorney General: You voted for that judge. And that island is called Oahu. It’s my home. Have some respect.”

In a statement, a spokesman for the Justice Department said that Hawaiians were missing the crux of Sessions’ argument.

“Hawaii is, in fact, an island in the Pacific,” said spokesman Ian Prior. “A beautiful one where the Attorney General’s granddaughter was born. The point, however, is that there is a problem when a flawed opinion by a single judge can block the President’s lawful exercise of authority to keep the entire country safe.”

It should not come as any surprise, though, to see liberal Democrats grasp at any hint of racially-charged language to avoid actually addressing Sessions’ point. This is their stock in trade. They are always looking for any minor violation of PC Thought Code so they can “win” the argument without actually making one of their own. And with an administration like President Trump’s, they are like kids in the candy store. Hell, has the Democratic Party put forward even one coherent political argument – about anything – since Trump took office?

And this, really, goes back to the problem with these judicial decisions. They aren’t based on any legal standing; they are based on interpretations of the president’s psychological state, comments he made on the campaign trail, and other things that have nothing to do with U.S. law.

Political correctness is dangerous enough as a cultural phenomenon; we can’t allow it to replace the Constitution as our judiciary’s guiding light.
