During the State of the Union address Tuesday, President Donald Trump introduced America to Janiyah Davis. Trump introduced the fourth grader from Philadelphia right after he talked about the “countless American children” who are “trapped in failing government schools.” Trump said Janiyah was one of tens of thousands of students on waiting lists for scholarships and she would receive an “opportunity scholarship” to attend the school of her choice.
It was supposed to be a moment to help make the point that school choice should be expanded. But it turns out, Janiyah doesn’t go to a failing school. Not even kind of. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, she attends a competitive charter school that is incredibly difficult to get into. In September, Janiyah Davis entered Math, Science and Technology Community Charter School III. The school, which is independently run but funded by taxpayers, is so popular that it received 6,500 applications for a mere 100 spots next year.
So, why was Janiyah chosen for the scholarship paid for by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos? No one seems to really know. Her mother, Stephanie, said she was “really surprised” when her daughter was named in the State of the Union. “I don’t view MaST as a school you want to get out of at all. I view it as a great opportunity,” Davis said. Before joining the charter school, Janiyah received a partial scholarship for Olney Christian and it was that school’s principal who gave Janiyah’s name when someone called asking about potential candidates for scholarships

Whining? You don't understand what the anthem means to many vets. Here's an example. One lost both legs yet he stood for the anthem. It isn't just the refusing to stand for the anthem, I simply have been boycotting NFL games for going on 5 years now, you'd be surprised at how easy it is to find replacements. The other issue is the players playing the victim card. You and I know very well they never picked cotton, I nor you ever had s***es so their point is? The super bowl halftime show, I can't comment, haven't seen it. I've been working with a pro-life leader (Students For Life) so I guess our attitudes on that will be very different.

Criticism of an individual even vulgar criticism is not h**e speech unless the speech specifically mentions race, color, creed, sex or sexual orientation. As an example Trump is of German ancestry, calling him a stupid Kraut, which is the only derogatory term I can think of for for Germans could be considered h**e speech however calling him a Cheeto faced S**tgibbon is simply a colorful insult. Even calling him a N**i is not h**e speech because it refers to political tendencies. Thief, con man, compulsive liar and t*****r are all of course harsh but well reasoned descriptions of his behavior and adapt descriptions. Their is an interesting legal term called “fighting words” that do not rise to the level of h**e speech but to an average person could reasonably provoke a violent response. As an example referring to a persons mother as a whore in the presence of both can be used as a defense in the assault of the person making the insult, but it is by no means a universal defense as many other factors come into play.

Where I v**e we use scannable paper b****ts where v**es are made by filling in an oval with indelible ink from a ball point pen. It is then fed into a machine that scans and retains the b****t. If someone over v**es or otherwise spoils a b****t the machine rejects it and a new b****t is presented to the v**er. Absentee b****ts are received by the city clerk brought to the precinct on E******n Day and fed into the machine by precinct workers. The signatures on b****t applications are checked against those on the v***r r**********ns at his time v**ers must also present identification or sign an affidavit attesting to their identity unless recognized by precinct workers. The b****ts can be either recounted or rescanned and the b****ts from each precinct are stored in sealed bags in sealed containers and kept in the custody of the local police.
