Or, my great grandfather? My grandfather? My father?
Let's say that I did some sketchy stuff when I was young, and have turned around, and am now an honest, upstanding, hard working,
taxpaying family man. Is my past still to be held against me?
No it's not YOUR past being held against you.
God said He will deliver the sins of the father upon the sons. One interpretation is - although you did not commit your father's sins you should still do what you can to right your father/grandfather's wrongs - especially if the sins of your ancestors continue to cause undo pain and suffering to others.
