Holy Moly! I read everything NL put out for years. I've still got a few items I just couldn't get rid of. Mad Magazine before that but NL was "more mature juvenile humor".

Each day there are a couple or more new stories. The headlines are usually funny enough, but they write great articles too. They perform a desperately needed dose of funny when all around us everything seems to be sliding into the sewer. Keeps me what (I think passes for) sane. But what do I know?

We live in precarious times. Be prepared.
EVERYONE needs to read and take seriously what you just said. I mean for heaven's sake - even the government thinks so https://www.ready.gov/
(of course the conspiracy theorist in me sometimes thinks this is just them outsourcing the effort, so they can steal from us when they need to...)

A good replacement for Speaker McCarthy would be Trey Gowdy.
Right?! It had nothing to do with the Dems v****g as a block (gotta give them credit) to put a fork in him. I don't think he'd have ever made the deal to allow the whole "1 person can request v**e to vacate" if Nancy Pelosi hadn't promised him she had his back. I'm still scratching my head as to why the Dems ditched Mac, but we're going to find out soon.

Are the 8 who v**ed from the Republican side RINOs? Don't think so.
Had we shut down the government... If we don't get a deal that makes sense, and that's the only way to fix things, then S T F'r Down. I served and I understand the hardship of many young troops right now, but if we don't fix the finances of the USA soon, they aren't going to make it anyway.
We have many foreign enemies... And more than a few running things right now here at home.
Matt Gates is a treasonable greasy little worm The jury is out on that one. We need to see what happens moving forward.
A good replacement for Speaker McCarthy would be Trey Gowdy... A few years ago, I might have agreed, but he seems to be happy making money playing expert for the MSM, so I think we can do better.

I have not really been able to find the answers to these questions. Can anyone help?

1. Has Trump paid back the loans in question or is he in the process of paying them back?

2. Have the lending institutions suffered any loss because of Trump's actions?
My understanding is: 1.) Yes and 2.) No. But then, that isn't part of their argument - is it? The banks aren't suing Trump. Over the years, he's probably made them MANY millions.

John Kelly, the longest-serving White House chief of staff for Donald Trump, offered his harshest criticism yet of the former president in an exclusive statement to CNN.

Kelly set the record straight with on-the-record confirmation of a number of damning stories about statements Trump made behind closed doors attacking US service members and veterans, listing a number of objectionable comments Kelly witnessed Trump make firsthand.

“What can I add that has not already been said?” Kelly said, when asked if he wanted to weigh in on his former boss in light of recent comments made by other former Trump officials. “A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all ‘suckers’ because ‘there is nothing in it for them.’ A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because ‘it doesn’t look good for me.’ A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family – for all Gold Star families – on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France.

“A person who is not t***hful regarding his position on the protection of unborn life, on women, on minorities, on evangelical Christians, on Jews, on working men and women,” Kelly continued. “A person that has no idea what America stands for and has no idea what America is all about. A person who cavalierly suggests that a selfless warrior who has served his country for 40 years in peacetime and war should lose his life for treason – in expectation that someone will take action. A person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators. A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law.

“There is nothing more that can be said,” Kelly concluded. “God help us.”

Let's just for a minute accept that some of what you said might be true, because most of it is pure bovine residue. Donald Trump is a flawed man and a sinner. Uhhh...OK...so he's one of US. Were you better off when Trump was President? Or are you better off now? And, oh yeah...

The Dallas mayor has switched from Democrat to Republican and says the country needs Republicans.
Don't jump the gun. Let's see how this plays out before we praise the Dallas Mayor. I mean, at this point, all he's proven is that he isn't brain-dead, and can see as well as any intelligent person that most (not all) large Democrat controlled cities aren't moving in the right direction. Hopefully he can make a difference and show those Democrats who elected him that he's on the right path. Otherwise, Dallas is still just one of a number of blue dots on a cardinal red state map.

If you do a search on the death toll of the Maui Fires that began in early August, you get some ridiculous numbers that range up to an official total of 114. In Lahaina’s community of only 12,000 people, there are 2,000 missing children, or about one-sixth of the population. I think it is fair to say that after almost a month and a half, they most likely perished in the fires (yet how could 2,000 bodies disappear)?

There are so many unanswered questions, questionable actions (police and civic officials), unusual observations (melted car windows, molten metal, completely destroyed homes while trees immediately adjacent were left relatively untouched) that speculation's on this incident run rampant.

One of the more thought provoking articles appears below, and speculates on the following, including the 2030 Agenda goals.

CONSPIRING APPARATCHIKS, MINIONS AND USEFUL I***TS

THE PRIME SUSPECTS

MOTIVE AND OPPORTUNITY

"To enact their One World Government utopia, they plan to reconfigure the world as we know it, ending national sovereignty, and redesigning countries into combined unions, e.g. the European Union, and the planned North American Union, etc. All will be vassal states serving the whims of the Masters of the Universe in their palatial digs.

Interestingly, the wildfires in California and Maui appear to have opposite purposes. The Wine Country fires were likely deployed as a first step in reclaiming that land as “wildlands” or “buffer zones” in which human access will be banned. Whereas the firebombing of Lahaina was likely done to clear the decks for the building of a 15-minute city—a high-density, urbanized mini-metropolis, filled with stack-and-pack housing, and miserable, constantly surveilled people. A travesty inflicted on the tranquil small town community of mostly native Hawaiians."
