Did you mean that the couple had an income of $100 a MONTH, not a week? $25 a week was a good wage during the War.

This was right after the war. I am old but not quite of that generation. I was born in 1949.

They have to lower the scores since the kids are so ignorant now days. They simply are not teaching them much of anything in the normal public schools. Charter schools are quite a bit better, but there are not enough of them for the kids that want to go there.

The kids are indeed ignorant, but we as adults and parents should protest the lowing of standards. This saddens me, it is as though we have given up on the capabilities and potential futures of our youth. We have come to accept bad attitudes, mob type behavior, and disrespect. Now we will need to adjust to speaking very slow and use only monosyllabic words. Vocabulary was one of the items cut from the new SAT standards.

I remember those days. My family had a house that they rented out and I remember people saying that paying $25 a month for rent was outrageous. For a 4 bedroom 2 bath house. Papa reduced the rent to $15 for a couple with two kids after they explained that their income was only $100 a week. I also remember 1 cent candy, where you could buy two for 1 penny. Seems so long ago....are we really that old?

Wow. It seriously makes me want to shove the lot of them over the nearest cliff.

I was lucky. I was born 4 years before the Second World War started that brought us up out of the Great Depression, and while the population of America was still small, around 140 million. I grew up in a city that still had vacant lots you could play baseball in, by an ocean that was crystal clear and had big fish you could catch right off a pier. I could be out after dark as a boy and be safe. There was no air pollution, there were lots of jobs, almost everyone lived in a house as there were very few apartment buildings outside of some single story "courts" built in the 1920's that mostly old retired people lived in.

As a teenager I traveled the state and enjoyed all the natural beauty. I went camping for a week in Yosemite National Park and didn't need any permit or reservation. and CA sales tax was 4%.
Everything was cheap even though wages were much lower then. I got to live through the Golden Age of America.

It takes about $120 or more now to buy groceries that cost about $8 then. So if you made $60 a week then, a decent wage, you need to make $900 a week now to even come close to the same level and standard of living. And you won't make it.

The people we elect, all of them working in concert, are wrecking this country and not caring a whit. I think our time is ending.

Thank you for the links, I found them very informative. For anyone that has not read the inclusions in this law, you will find some surprises. Not only the fishing gear is taxed, but there is a new tax on tanning.

What else are we secretly paying this "medical device excise tax on?
Is there such a thing as a fishing rodoscopy?

Check this out.

CABELA'S
Medical Excise Tax on Retail Receipts?

The 2.3% Medical Excise Tax that began on January 1st is supposed to be "hidden" from the consumer, but it's been brought to the public's attention by hunting and fishing store Cabela's who have refused to hide it and are showing it as a separate line item tax on their receipts, the email states.

I did some research and found directly from the IRS's website information that PROVES this to be true and an accurate portrayal of something hidden in Obamacare that I was not aware of! Now being skeptical of this I went to the IRS website and found this!

Q1. What is the medical device excise tax? A1. Section 4191 of the Internal Revenue Code imposes an excise tax on the sale of certain medical devices by the manufacturer or importer of the device.

Q2. When does the tax go into effect? A2. The tax applies to sales of taxable medical devices after Dec. 31, 2012.

Q3. How much is the tax? A3. The tax is 2.3 percent of the sale price of the taxable medical device. See Chapter 5 of IRS Publication 510, Excise Taxes, and Notice 2012-77 for additional information on the determination of sale price. IRS.gov <http://irs.gov/> <http://irs.gov/>

Chapter Five http://www.irs.gov/publications/p510/ch05.html <http://www.irs.gov/publications/p510/ch05.html>

So being more curious I clicked on "Chapter 5 Of IRS Publication 510."

And what do I find under "MEDICAL DEVICES" under "MANUFACTURERS TAXES"?

The following discussion of manufacturers taxes

Applies to the tax on:

Sport fishing equipment;

Fishing rods and fishing poles;

Electric outboard motors;

Fishing tackle boxes;

Bows, quivers, broad heads, and points;

Arrow shafts;

Coal;

Taxable tires;

Gas guzzler automobiles;

and

V*****es.

We have been lied to again, if we believe that the Affordable Care Act is all about health care. It is a monstrous law that will ration health care while bankrupting the country, and a law with a whole lot of taxes that we the people have yet to be made aware of.

It is a political con to gain more control. It is also a method to obtain more taxes for the Democrats to buy the v**es of the ignorant and uninformed and those who want something for nothing.

I guess it’s just like Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass it to see what is in it." Well, what is next? What else is there we do not know about? Where is the press? O yes, it's in the tank for Obama.

So much of the time on this forum is spent hurling angry remarks, name calling and belittling each other. I intended to lighten things up with the remark about the brain/body cross wire.

I am sorry for my comment, and you are right. If I had nothing to add or "considre" then I should not have commented. I will say that you are right about one other point, I stay in a good mood for 99.9 percent of my life.

As to the idea of my head in the sand, no little one, my head is first with my faith, second with my family, and third with business. Each has brought me riches beyond measure. For me, I will keep my cheerful mood because if all we think about is how horrible things are, then we will go to our graves miserable and lonely. We are given one opportunity in this life and body to be everything we were intended, I for one have no intentions of standing before God on judgment day and have him ask me why I squandered my life in misery.

Last thing, t***h is powerful and right. However, t***h is provable and not just one person's opinion. T***h is not happy being ignored, so it will repeat itself until people take notice, much like history. And there is the challenge, show to me in facts a time where there have not been "a bunch of power-hungry crooks" in our nation. There will always be people like yourself who view those that have succeeded as "crooks" but in reality, you too could have become successful. But, then others would be pointing a finger and saying, "Carolyn is nothing more than a power-hungry rich ^&%$$ who keeps her head buried in the sand."

I hope you have a wonderful day. And, again, you are right I had nothing of consequence to add to your posts. I intended no harm.

Then perhaps, since you are always in a wonderful mood until you read some t***h that is posted here, you should just keep your head buried in that wonderful warm sand and allow our country to be taken control of by a bunch of power-hungry crooks that developed in crime city, USA.

Isn't that where Obama got his start in crooked politics?

What will the f*****t gay lobby say now?

Governor of New Mexico, Susana Martinez, has been told by her gay hairdresser that he will no longer be working on her coif. It seems that her hairdresser, Mr. Antonio Darden, does not appreciate the Governor’s stance on homosexuality and gay marriage. Because of this he will no longer cut her hair.

Darden told a local news station that he cut the governor’s hair three times, but won’t do it again as long as she continues to oppose gay marriage.

“The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in,” he told KOB-TV. “Because of her stances and her views on this, I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I’d changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no.”

“It’s just e******y, dignity for everyone,” he said. “Everybody should be allowed the right to be together.”

Gov Martinez: That’s interesting. I think Mr. Darden is well within his rights to refuse service to anyone he chooses – but given the recent spate of lawsuits against Christian business owners for not serving at gay weddings – it seems like the outcry from the liberal community should be immediate. They’ve been the ones saying that Christians’ refusal to perform at gay weddings amounted to a new kind of “Jim Crow” – so wouldn’t this be similar?

The fact is that the gay lobby and the liberal community have overplayed their hand. They have been refusing service (and worse) to conservatives FOR YEARS. Whether the issue has been homosexuality, immigration, a******n, etc. they have always found reasons to marginalize and attack us. Now that Christians have turned the tables and refused to perform at gay weddings, the gay lobby has gotten litigious.

For years (especially in 80’s movies about the beach) we were told “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service” and we all assumed that businesspeople had the right to refuse service to anyone they didn’t want to serve. In years past we also understood the free market better and knew that for the free market to operate fairly and justly, both parties had to CHOOSE to be part of the t***saction.

Forcing business owners to serve everyone no matter what is just as f*****t and despotic as the government saying that some people CAN’T be served.

Apparently, liberals are now openly embracing f*****m.

Bo,

Thank you for this information, it is uplifting. I did notice that the proposed increase does not directly affect the pay these people will receive, but I am glad to see the medical care increase. Again, thank you.

To change my disposition momentarily, I wish I would be able to look at those who disavow God and say, we told you so. :|

No you don't. Your heart is too full of love, you would pity them; and knowing you, you would probably ask God for his mercy. I know that at times, I wish I could put my hands on them and shake them....wake up, you only have this one opportunity to be right and do right. But, we are left with trying to show, try to tell, and always pray.

Hang in there. Keep a smile!

So, what did you give up for Lent? Passover is next month and I am looking forward to it. Nancy is all excited because she will be saying the blessing. She has pulled me aside so she can practice the Hebrew pronunciations. Poor child, she has problems but she is putting her heart into the effort.
