Our wolf mix, a neutered male, was protective but never was out of control aggressive. I had two sons, both very young and that dog was the best compaign and I felt absolutely confident that he would have given his life for either of my kids, my husband or myself. However, when we had company I always took him to his enclosed run until he got used to the scent of the guest and showed me that he accepted them as a member of his pack. Yes, he was an alpha male, but just a real loving guy. He died from old age having never shown unprovoked territorial tendency or uncontrolled aggression. He was real aggressive with his toys but you could take food from his mouth without a second thought. That was my dog and has never been replaced in my heart.

That is of course a loaded question and if one guesses wrong someone else usually pays the consequences of that decision. I saw a show awhile back and it featured a german sheperd-wolf combination. I believe it was a 50/50 combination like wolf male top german sheperd female. But the interesting feature was when this dog/wolf grew up the owner played with the dog and had a relation with the animal. When playing with this animal the animal would play like a dog and they would wrestle and goof around and then out of the blue the animal would for some unforeseen reason turn into full wolf in its actions. They never figured out what the trigger was but when the trigger happened you would fear for your life. This may be something that is similar in the pit bull. However which combination would finally be acceptable in all cases only time and experimentation would tell that story and even then are you willing to take the chance that your dog may not have a throwback to the original.

Dr. Race Foster, D.V.M., who writes for the pet education website Doctors Foster and Smith, explains that androgenic hormones, of which testosterone is the most important, affect many behaviors in dogs, including sexual and aggressive actions. “Regardless of which category [of behavior] we are talking about,” he writes, “most of the unwanted characteristics or conditions are caused by the male hormone testosterone, which is produced within the testicle.” Removing the testicles effectively puts a stop to these unwanted behaviors. It is not 100 percent effective in every case, but it sure would go a long way in reducing the amount of attacks. But, Dr Foster says that the surgery should be done before the dog's 1st birthday. By that time, it is more than just hormone; it is by all accounts part training/treatment and hormone.

If the neutering had the same effect on the pit bull that it does on horses and cattle that might be all it would take but I think that there would have to be studies done on that.

There will always be an underground cult, whether it is cock fighting (which is horrible), greyhound racing (cruel, don't get me started on this issue), and dog fighting. But, you are right. We should take action before more people are attacked. I know that there are some that love their pits and I understand, but removal of the biting teeth and neutering is a solution that is not cruel to the dog; they live quite well without the teeth and the...., good for the loving owners because they get to keep the animal and some peace of mind.

I totally agree with you on the pit bull dog my brother in law and his wife had a pit bull mix. That dog tore holes in the bedroom doors and actually ate its way though a wall by their patio door to get outside. Their daughter had a baby and lived with them. Everything went along well until the dog bit the baby. That pit bull mix is no longer alive. I don't know why we have to wait for some event to occur like a death to put these dogs down. I know that there will still be the drug crowd that will bring them in illegally but at least keep them out of the hands of people with small children or the elderly.

Actually, my ring finger is noticeably longer on both hands than my index finger. And my hands are large, still in proportion to my body but I have to wear a size large gloves. And my feet are big too. I wear a size 9 shoe. And if that were not enough, I am 5'9" tall. So, if you are a freak for having a longer ring finger then so am I.

That part, and the part about the shoulder/neck thing is really reaching for straws. But, you have to admit that the front view with the dress.....makes one think, now that I have seen the video I will not be looking at her face or arms, but the hip line. Then again, there are not that many pix of her in a form fitting dress where she is standing up.

Ok, Please ladies look at your hands and tell me someone else's ring finger is a tad longer than their index finger. Mine is. So am I a freak or what? Please chime in and tell me that your ring finger is also longer.

Very accurate. These animals are dangerous. I have owned a Doberman, a rotweilder, and a wolf-sheppard mix. All three of these animals are loyal and were family members that behaved very well. My son, when he moved away from home adopted a pit bull; now I am an animal lover and would not harm any beast (I do not eat meat) and most animals, to include wild animals will walk right up to me. This dog h**ed me, I would walk into the room and his hackles would go up, he tried his best to get at me. Well, I said nothing. I was not initially afraid of this animal, I did not do anything to cause it to be afraid. It just simply h**ed anyone other than my son. Then my son got married and the dog behaved the same way toward his new wife. He got rid of it. I am of the opinion that this is one breed of dog that should be allowed to die off. I think that all of these animals need to be neutered and not allowed to breed. Recently in AZ a pit bull attacked a 4 year old child, this was the second time the dog had attacked a person. But, the people in AZ petitioned to save it. The judge did the PC thing, ordered the dog to have all its front teeth removed and never to be adopted out (they left the teeth used for chewing food in place). Perhaps all pit bull owners should consider the removal of the "biting" teeth and neutered. It would be safer for everyone concerned. Those that love their pits would still have their dog, but it would no longer be a danger and in 12 years or so the breed would disappear. End of problem.

MrEd wrote:
They are outlawed in some places, but most of the time they are treated like any other dog. Now I love dogs and I would never normally go against any breed, but this one I do draw the line on. I have been around them and have never felt comfortable in the same room with them. I was around a half wolf and half German Shepard and felt better around him then I did a Pit Bull.

I'm sorry to say this, but I would not be unhappy to see this breed go. This is the only breed that I have ever seen that can draw blood just being playful, and yes I had that done to me. I have been around several other breeds that are considered dangerous and I have never felt threatened, but I did the first time I met a Pit Bull.

I can see people saying that other breeds draw blood too and I agree, but it is by accident with them. I have had my Yourkie draw blood, but not by biting me several times like that Pit Bull did. I just can't justify keeping that breed around for anything other then war dogs and I am not sure they would be very good for that either.

Why does it have to be about h**e? Can you not see that he is not a good president? Can you not just see him as another human that should not have been v**ed into the position? Not because of g****r, or color, or the size of his ring finger; but because he did not have any foreign affairs experience, no real experience in budget (on a very large scale like the budget of the USA), and he has not kept any of his promises. This is not what you want it to be, it is a simple fact that we as a nation made a mistake and now we know better. Next time we will v**e on qualifications and not on lip service.

And I am your huckleberry! I love it! Papa's favorite saying when he was ready for battle. I agree with you. It has been reported for years that Obama is gay, even school mates talked about his persuasion and then there is the bath houses, coupled with untimely deaths of past "friends." It makes sense that he would marry a "queen" and watch her walk, look at her adam's apple, and that green dress with the unsightly bulge of a cup..... What was that old song, the "Dude Looks like a Lady" Aerosmith. An old one.... but, perhaps we could say the Lady Looks Like a Dude. This is not disrespectful, it is an observation that more than one has made. So for all you people that want to call me names; go ahead the lady does look like a dude.

I saw that, and I also saw the adam's apple. I do not know of any woman that has dress issues where it appears that they are wearing a shield, and I do not know any women who have noticeable adam's apples. However, I confess that my ring finger is longer than my index finger. Her movements are not that of a woman; she appears to be a d**g q***n. And this is no surprise, was there not stories about Obama and bath houses? And there was a classmate, I think her name was Poke or Pope, who said that he was gay.

Exactly where in my comment did you read that I think being overweight is normal or that I offered an excuse. Perhaps you did not read this portion of my comment:

"There is a treatment and it works for 100 percent of these people. Remove all artificial sweeteners, preservatives and dyes from the diet. Your body was not designed to process these things. It keeps pharmaceutical companies and big processing plants in business. They are not there for your health but for the coin in the pocket book. That means that most factory made breads, most frozen dinners, canned food...... and go to a complete natural diet. Fruit, vegetables that are raw and you have to cook, and if you eat meat or fish then make it fresh. And to loose weight, do not bother spending money on a gym; simple things like get rid of the remote control and actually get up and change channels, mow your own lawn, when you go to the store park further away from the entrance, stand up when you talk on the phone, if you see trash on your sidewalk bend over and pick it up. "

You may consider me as "spreading unhealthy rhetoric to others" or you can stop and think about what artificial sweetners and preservatives have done to our nations. And there is evidence that support my position. Read: http://www.healthiertalk.com/do-sugar-substitutes-contribute-obesity-1427
