Life is just a bowl of cherries with a cherry nut on the inside. Applies only to extended life.

When you are my age, every morning you wake up with aches in places where yesterday, you didn't know you had places.

Well here is how I feel about it.
L. TAYLOR, 6/9/13 life-66
AGING ROUTINE

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT A SEASON, AND LIVING LONG IS THE CAUSE.
WITHOUT ANY GOOD NEW REASON, OUR ROLE IN LIFE WILL PAUSE.
BOTH MEN AND WOMEN OLDER, CHANGE, WOMEN GET CRANKY.
AND SOMETIMES SO MUCH BOLDER, THE MEN JUST GET SKANKY.

MEN ALSO GET MUCH MILDER, AS IF THEY''VE COME FROM BATTLE.
WHEN THE PLACE GETS WILDER, THEIR THOUGHT ARE TO SKID-ADDLE.
THE WOMEN NOW INSTEAD, ALL STAND WITH THEIR FACES SO GRIM.
EYES LIKE FLINT, SHAKE THEIR HEAD, THEIR BACKING DOWN IS SLIM.

MAYBE IT HAS BEEN ORDAINED, THAT IN THIS OLDER SEX RELATION.
THAT WHAT THE MAN OBTAINED, IS REALLY OF A WOMAN'S CREATION.
THE MEN RETIRE TO THEIR CASTLE, AND WANT TO FIND SOME PEACE.
THE WOMEN TAKE TO THE HASSLE, AND ARGUEMENTS NEVER CEASE.

THERE IS ALWAYS SOME MINOR CHANGE, THAT WOMEN SEEM TO SAVOR.
THEIR LIVING STYLE TO JUST REARRANGE, BETTER SUITE THEIR FAVOR.
THE THINGS THEN THEY'VE ALWAYS HATED, ARE SUBJECT TO THEIR RAGE.
IT WILL NEVER BE ABATED, UNLESS THEY CAN SIGN ON TO THE PAGE.

SO WHY DO THEY HAVE THIS NEW CONDITION, IT IT BECAUSE OF STRIFE?
OR JUST SOME URGENT COMMISSION, WE WANT TO ADOPT IN OUR LIFE.
THE MEN ACT SLOW LIKE A BEAR, AND PULL BACK FROM CONTENTION.
AND JUST SETTLE INTO THEIR LAIR, AS IF IT IS THEIR MASTER INVENTION.

THE WOMEN NOW STAND UP TALL, AS IF THEY MUST FACE THE DRAGON.
AND WANT TO CHANGE MOST ALL, TRY TO GET THEIR WAY BY NAGGIN'.
THEY USE NAGGIN' LIKE A CLUB, AND BECOME SO GOOD AT NIT-PICK-IN.
REMEMBER EVERY LITTLE FLUB, AND CLUCK LIKE AN ANGRY CHICKEN.

THE MEN LOOK AT THIS ACTION, AS THEIR WAY TO STIR UP THE POT.
AND THEIR USUAL REACTION, IS TO IGNORE IT, AND JUST DO IT NOT.
THE FUTURE IS NOT CERTAIN, THEY SEE THEIR PART AS MORE SURE.
THEY START TO PULL THE CURTAIN, THEY WANT JUST TO DO NO MORE.

SO WHEN MEN BACK OUT OF SIGHT, THE WOMEN SEE THEIR CHANCE.
AND STAND UP TALL TO FIGHT, LIKE IT'S STARTING A NEW ROMANCE.
BUT THE YOUNGER MEN LEADERS, WILL PUSH THEM BACK DOWN.
THEY WON''T LET THESE NEEDER'S, TRY TO TAKE AWAY THEIR CROWN.

This geezer still has 20/20. Damn shame everything else is falling apart. The eight broken bones of my misspent youth are haunting me. (That includes ribs, fingers, and toes, ankle and back).

All I need to know about aging is learned by observing my reunions.
High school, military, etc., everyone I reacquaint myself with was/is an old person. It took me a while, but it finally dawned on me what was happening.

Reality set in. Not really a bad thing, but inevitable.

I am glad you are 20/20, but for some reason when I passed the 79 mark my eyes started to take their own time focusing on the smaller print. Not only that, but one eye went berserk with floaters and distortion that needed laser care. I was not satisfied with the results of that, but too late smart seems to be a mantra of geezers. We are too trusting.

At 83, I'm probably older than you and I don't wake up with pain unless I did something the day before to hurt or injure myself. I breath on a mirror and if it fogs up, that means I have to get up and start moving.

I can't complain. My weight is where it should be, blood pressure averages about 115 over 60, all my blood work is excellebt, I ride a bicycle most days and when I go somewhere I park in the far corner of the parking lot so I have to walk. I do an average of an hour to an hour and a half in the gym working on various machines to keep muscle tone. I have done that workout almost 2oo days this year.

Only problem I have is poor eyesight caused by macular degeneration for which I have been receiving regular eye injections for five years. It keeps my eyes legal to drive but makes reading a newspaper difficult, but not impossible with a magnifyer.

Some years ago I stopped lying about my age and started bragging about it.

A few years ago I went to a couple of military reunions of units from the late 1940s I was disappointed because there were only old people there.

My latest trip to the doctor, for my checkup, He told me to read the smallest line I could on the eyechart. I read about half of it. Changed to right eye, read the whole thing. It was the 20/10 line. At least something still works. I can easily remember my eyesight, as it is the same as the year: 20/13. Or as they called it, 20/10 plus 3. I am truly thankful for this, and for my unusually acute night vision. The doctor commented that my vision was uncommonly good for any age, and really unusual for someone 59.

Years ago, when I went in to have my eyes checked, the doctor told me to sit down and read a certain line of letters.
I snapped, "no one on earth could read that line, are you out of your mind?" He then told me stay seated, and fitted me, eventually, with my first pair of glasses.

I saw things more clearly soon thereafter! :D

I am just full of stories today. My eyesight is abysmal and has been on and off all my life. On more then one occasion, I have taken my glasses off, laid them down, come back to seek them out and lo and behold cannot find them. The phrase I hear during those times is, "Just look for them." HELLO, if my sight was not so bad I would not need glasses. HEY, if I need glasses you blithering _______, how do you expect me to see them to, "Just look for them."

Rant off.

Getting old is not fun. Staying alive is more of a chore every day. What is it that makes us get up & keep going? I guess it is just that we want to pass the test of living another day just to see what it brings.
