Great car , now if they sell , that will bring the price down a bit . I think it will be a winner .

I just wonder what the battery life expectancy is? The battery would be a huge expense if it didn't last for years!
I have made a living for years using lit-ion battery powered tools and can attest to their superiority in rapid charging and charge holding ability. I can also state that some of them last for years and some go bad in a matter of weeks.
My point is that if you have to replace a $10,000.00 battery every two years you are not saving anything over the price of gas!

One of the few things that Whitebeard and I agree on is the fact that battery development is lagging behind other technologies, and more efficient batteries would be a boon and a boost to alternate energy sources.

If the car sells American Ingenuity will take care of the rest . Virtually all the products that are new , are usually expensive at first .When there is a demand , there is competition , and then comes the better mousetrap .

Battery technology is still it's achilles heel (not to mention cost), just as it is in solar power. Until a new cheaper and more durable battery is invented, the battery will be the downside of the electric car industry. In addition, many states (CA, NV, to name a few) are concerned about electric cars not using enough gas and therefore not paying any state fuel taxes. So they're currently evaluating mileage driven tax plans to ensure the electric car owners pay their fair share. Plus, our over-taxed antiquated electrical grid has to be used to charge the batteries. With the left ramping up "green energy" plans (no matter the cost), the cost of electricity in the future is going to increase drastically.

They will probably just add a new tax to everyone's electric bills to make up for lost revenue!

Here's a thought for you , try looking at things from an engineering , scientific ,or economical view , instead of "The Left "
Oil is not an infinite source , or a renewable source . While fracking is going full steam out West , they have a huge looming water problem . This due to overuse , waste , drought and fracking . Soon unless the drought breaks the Colorado river itself is in danger . The River is presently threatened by Daming , diversion and drought .
So what it comes down to for farmers , towns and cities is simple ...NO WATER /NO NOTHING . Just like the Oil Companies will have to find a new method of fracking that doesn't use so much water , the industries making those batteries will find a way . This is no a political issue , it is a science and technology issue . Water and Oil are FINITE resources . Human Life is sustained by water , not oil . And necessity is the mother of invention .

You no doubt read The Huffington Post article on water use in fracking, and researched no further. If you would research further you would find many studies that the amount of water used in hydraulic fracturing will level off in the future, as water recycling technologies mature and the industry's rapid growth rate cools. You see their engineers are working on ways to reduce water usage. As for the oil statement, we have enough oil under our own surface, and off our coasts, to last 200+ years. We have abundant coal deposits that will last hundreds of years. How about using new technology to further reduce coal emissions, instead of destroying the industry?

Wait for 5, 10, or 20 years down the road when studies and reports start coming out about how much solar and wind power are destroying the environment - they're coming. Ever live close to a wind farm? I have an aunt that does, and the ground shaking from the wind generators are destroying her basement, not to mention the constant noise they generate.

I have no doubt that new battery technology will eventually design a better battery, but it it's many years away.

I'm not quiet sure how far down the road new battery technology really is. I read an article not long ago that some college kids were on the verge of perfecting a new type of battery that would store many times the energy that today's batteries are capable of!
The new design was supposed to be much smaller lighter and far more economical to produce, did I mention safer.
The problem with something like that is if it really is that good the petroleum industry will buy the rights to it and it will never see the market!

If this car sells it will be out of the Oil company's hands to attempt buying out the technology .
as for old schools statement about improving fracking , well I hope he's right , because right now in the west the situation is ALREADY critical .
I also disagree that better technology for batteries is years away , there are already in existence electro-chemical devices the size of about a 20 ft shipping container that are providing full power for multiple office building . And these are entirely renewable .

First of all the west water situation is NOT critical due to water usage in fracking. There is a water shortage in the west due to drought no doubt, I happen to live in the west. But water usage for fracking is quite low when compared to water usage in lawn watering or power generation - far less. Read some of the articles on Forbes or The Wall Street Journal, they are far less biased than The Huffington Post article that was written by John Platt who is left-leaning environmentalist wacko - who by the way writes a lot of fiction.

You're misreading old school I didn't say it was due to fracking alone , I said fracking was exacerbating the problem , and for some towns the problem is critical due to fracking . The information I stated didn't come from HuffPO it came from Scientific American . .

You gonna call Scientific American Left Leaning ??? I have no idea of who John Platt is .

Most of the info that Scientific American got came directly from the Upper Colorado River Authorities , are they lefty wackos ?

You're too quick to jump on your tea party band wagon .

If they're politicians in Colorado they probably are left leaning wacko's!
You are a little to quick to jump on the tea party I would think!

Scientific American isn't necessarily liberal, but it is left of center. Tea Party? And, just what is that?
