The lack of effective new antibiotics to treat some common bacterial infections is killing so many people worldwide, it’s being called a “silent pandemic.” That is how Dr. Valeria Gigante and Professor Venkatasubramanian Ramasubramanian described it to the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases during a “pre-meeting” conducted April 15-18 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Ri-chard, It's a real problem. A lot of moms in the past told their child's doctor to give them an anti biotic shot no matter if it was that caused an illness. They don't work against a virus, but could cause germs to develop immunity against the anti biotic. The anti biotics that are routinely given to both milk, and beef cattle could be a cause of concern. We should develop all kinds of new anti biotic meds in the future, but may have to use them sparingly.

Resist the mainstream is a far right news organization with a mixed degree of reliabilty.
Mixed means that sometimes it gets the story right. The drug companies have stopped trying to develop antibiotics because they can make more money on other drugs. Bacterias are devloping resistance to most of our antibiotics. Like penicillin is not used much any more because it just doesn't work. People are loosing their lives due to antibiotic resistance. Hospitals are loosing small fortunes due to infections that are caught in hospitals.
There are some ideas, like developing bacteria phages to attack infections, but phages are not broad spectrum, but are sensitive only to specific bacteria.
