For all you deniers of climate change and those who give excuses such as "China is doing nothing about it, why should we?" Here's an article that should (hopefully) make you see sense.

It is only President Obama who is pushing alternate energy sources in this country. All the blind Repubs. are either ignorant or refusing to look at the reality of this situation. They insist there is no threat of climate change. Wonder why I have absolutely no confidence in this Repub. Congress? They are more interested in seeing President Obama fail than in the welfare of this once great nation.

I especially like their attitude of the U.S. and China being collaborators. It is Obama's EOs that will keep this country competitive. And please note the number of jobs available in this field. Obama's been stating this for a long time.

Who's showing brains now? Certainly not Congress!

Pay attention to the last link, 31 thousand plus scientists, including over 9000 PhDs, disagree.

Reducing CO2 would be good for my breathing and for yours. We should WORK WITH INDUSTRY to reduce it. If the earth is warming, it's god will--nothing we can do about it.

The following link is a list of " failed " solar and energy companies that have received funding through Obammy.

But according to you, it's all the republicans fault. Sad, yet comical.

If you reduce CO2 you reduce plant life. If you reduce plant life you reduce O2. How does that help either of our breathing?

C'mon monkey man,
There's an increase in CO2 and humans are reducing the capacity to reduce it daily by cutting down the rain forest globally, and getting more populous in China and India. Also ,the increase in manufacturing in both country's is having an effect. We are out of balance or equilibrium.

How's this one?

You are so right, we are becoming over populated. We need a good population reducing pandemic.

You do know that most CO2 to Oxygen metabolism happens by Sea plants, not the land forests. Oh, you didn't know that? (wasn't in the talking points, was it)

I do not completely disagree with you, but I think many people fail to give credit to the huge amount of changes the American consumer has already made over the years in response to environmental concerns.

1) Recycling. Most consumers are on board, with pounds and pounds of garbage being recycled weekly that once was thrown away.
2) Forest Initiatives. Manufacturers that design and cut wood products, (such as doors or windows for example) follow a strict initiative program to save our forests by literally planting 2 trees for every 1 they cut down to manufacture their product.
3) Americans have bought energy efficient cars - thus leaving the Feds scrambling for lost gasoline tax revenue.
4) Many urban-community consumers spend hundreds on expensive emission-law requirements in many states.
5) Most consumers are replacing their old appliances with energy-star rated, energy efficient appliances. We can tell this by the EnergyStar labels plastered all over any appliance showroom.
6) Consumers have abandoned the once-popular gas-guzzling SUV for smaller vehicles.

There's more changes the consumer has made which are too numerous to mention here. But I cannot help but feel insulted when you state Obama is "the only one doing anything" about the environment.

What a slap in the face to the average consumer who are doing what they can.

Not by you, sweetpea. Or anyone else. Go back to playing with yourself, or picking your nose, or however you pass the time. Your betters are having a conversation.

Alicia,
China is making the solar panel, because they sell well in the US. It's about money, not climate, that they do this. They are trying to get the trade imbalance way out in their advantage...they are setting us up.

To the topic at hand, Can the US compete with China?

We are severely disadvantaged by the regulations imposed on businesses, and the highest business tax in the world. China has the distinct advantage of holding a huge amount of US Treasury bonds, should they have a massive sell off of these bonds all at once they can defeat us without a shot. They won't do that right now, as they have a trump card holding our debt. But, once the Renminbi becomes a Global Reserve Currency (which is where it is headed) they will dominate us on the world markets.

Right now one of the only things keeping the US Dollar holding on is that it is the currency of the commodities markets (mainly oil).
That's why we had to attack Iraq, Saddam was selling oil in Euros and had to be slapped back into place. Libya began selling their oil in gold, which is why Gadhafi had to go.

What's next?
Venezuela is now selling their oil in gold. What will be their fate? If we allow it, more countries will follow and the US dollar (aka Petrodollar) will begin to collapse under our huge debt.

But, our fall will be our own doing by amassing such a huge debt.
17 trillion in debt, add with 125 trillion in Unfunded liabilities equals 142 trillion as the REAL Debt. The right now liability per taxpayer is over a million dollars
(per tax payer). There is no economic model that shows us recovering from this. We have already gone over the fiscal cliff, it's smooth sailing until we hit the bottom.

http://usdebtclock.org/

Look across that bottom row...that is unsustainable.
