Gees - so by this logic, if there really are 16.1% in poverty, we should just increase all those programs until everyone is above the poverty level -

Once again we see those who would redistribute wealth by government invariably end up distributing poverty.

Real poverty is not having junk food to eat; not having cable TV; not having cigarettes; not having booze; not having internet or a computer for that matter. And you can forget about having a car or an air conditioned home and you may not even have a home if you were impoverished in some place other than the U.S.A.

Turn the economy around by turning the tax system upside down. Obama told Joe the Plumber that he wanted to spread the wealth around, while the Maslar plan would spread the burden around. The so-called 47% are a drag on the economy, so turn them all into taxpayers so they appreciate it because something that costs zero is considered to be worth zero.

Under the Maslar “Three-Page Tax Plan” (Available from albertmaslar2@gmail.com) all residents would be required to file the new simplified 1040 that treats all income the same; no exemptions, no exclusions, no tax-free, no capital gains etc, with limited deductions, and all welfare would have to be listed and subject to the Simplified Income Tax (SIT). If no income, the Social Security number, name, address, phone, email address, must be listed for information and Universal Medicare Purposes, and the signature affirms the truth and completeness of the form.

After it is proven that the 3% National Sales Tax (NST) can carry current Budget, make payments to reduce National Debt, and cover Universal Medicare (UMC), the Simplified Income Tax would be gone along with the IRS. Businesses would deposit Sales Tax Collections in the same manner as they deposit Withholding Taxes. Many States have lotteries and the special cash registers and handling of monies could be used as a template for collection and payment of NST collected.

Meanwhile, the new 1040, income or not, would be used as an annual census replacing the ten-year census because the economy changes so much year-to-year that the ten year figures and conclusions are long obsolete. The new 1040 would be used to determine the amount or percent of medical co-pay each resident must pay or they may purchase secondary insurance if they wish from whomever they wish.

And there must be means testing as Social Security should not be paid to those not in need, the upper 20% or so. Nuisance taxes should be eliminated and when debt is also being paid down, payroll taxes can be proportionately reduced until hopefully they can also be eliminated along with death taxes that too often break apart successful companies and ventures, resulting in job loss hurting the economy. Note the UMC benefit to the States that would be virtually free of massive Medicaid costs.
