Utter Stupidity

I was in McDonald’s this morning and happened to find a wallet that a man left behind (actually more fanny pack than wallet because of its size). When I couldn’t find anyone in McDonald’s to claim it I went through it to find a name and phone number. This thing had the man’s driver’s license; military ID; Social Security card; about a dozen credit cards and his bank account numbers. If I had wanted to I could have emptied the man’s bank accounts and taken out enough debt to put him into bankruptcy in about 10 minutes time.

There was also a concealed weapons permit.

I couldn’t find a phone number to contact the owner so I left my number at McDonald’s. I’ve learned from past experience that leaving the wallet behind will likely get it emptied out before the owner comes back for it.

Later in the day the man called and I met him at the same McDonald’s to return his wallet. I found out that the man was on this side of town to take a course at H&R Block. He is a tax consultant.

The man who showed up did not at all match the photo on his ID. He was a ponytail wearing poster child for the tattoo (and I daresay marijuana) industry and about 20-30 years older than the picture on the ID.

Now does this indicate the stupidity of the people we let into our armed forces? The stupidity of the people we take financial advice from? Or the stupidity of the people we let carry guns?

Hope you did not give that obvious imposter the fannypack. Picture ids on license's are usually taken every 5yrs; if he was 20 to 30 yrs older, it was not him.

I didn’t pay too close attention to any of the important things in the wallet; I don’t want to be accused of anything if something were to ever suggest identity theft. The ID could have been his military ID and he could have been in the military decades ago. The wallet had an H&R Block business card so I called the number on it before I left my name with the people at McDonald’s. The people at Block verified that he was enrolled in their tax course.

The only stupidity I can see here is if you gave the wallet to this guy. But you chose to impugn the military and others. Calling H&R Block was not too bright either since the real owner was obviously part of that since the business card said so. They would have no way of knowing if this was the real guy. Did you ask him for his birthday or address etc. which you could have gotten off the driver license and/or CHL.

"He" was enrolled at the tax course, but was the guy that showed up "he"? No other "ID" in the wallet that was current? Most "tax consultants" have to be "bonded" and you can't get that done with a 20-30 yr. old ID.

Actually it seems to indicate the stupidity of the finder of the wallet

Perhaps you hadn't heard about Major Nidal - he's currently on trial - a far better story about stupidity in the military than yours

I'll bet you are sorry you ever showed your own stupidity by posting this. But I guess you are to be commended for "fessing up to your own stupidity.

Maybe he had a medical emergency, or had a child with him with an emergency. Maybe his mom, or wife were just in an accident. You are going to sit there and call somebody stupid based on what? Whatever you can come up with in your little pea brain?

Nope. He admitted that he left it at the McDonald’s. He was in this part of town to take a tax class.

The stupidity is the fact that this financial consultant had his personal financial documentation with him when he was out in public.
