Minnesota has free "outdoor skills" classes... How many other states have these? I had not paid attention to this until reminded by grandson a few days ago... he wanted his gal pal to go to one..

Registration is open for our fall Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship webinars! 🍂💻
Topics include grouse and deer hunting, birding, wildlife research and photography, opportunities at Minnesota state parks, fat-tire biking in the winter and fishing for northern pike 😄 All webinars begin at 1 p.m. and are recorded for viewing after the event.
Today's webinar is on grouse hunting basics. Join Charlie Tucker, DNR area wildlife manager, and Kraig Kiger, shooting sports program coordinator, to explore the basics of ruffed grouse hunting.
All webinars are free, but registration is required:

Utah might. I don't know. Utah has a college degree in Rodeo. Most of the towns in Utah have Rodeo Arenas in town. Lots of kids start young to participate. St George has a Rodeo Arena in the center of the city. A lot of the move-ins want to "use it for something better". Actually the things they think of are not better or even close. Just some kooky idea they have that it is. The City just upgraded the Arena recently. I also heard that our new County Building, which is huge, has no bonds for financing and was paid for before being started. If only the rest of the US would try that.

I like that rodeo idea.. a degree.. that would be on the wall for sure.. Minnesota has only a handful of Rodeos, a good one was just north of the twin cities for a long time, but have not heard of it for several years.. Camp Pendleton had a great one , do not know if it is still being held, got big names and great attendance..

my little girl was into it and very good barrel racing was her thing.. last year in high school, One young gal was so good she only lost one heat the entire year. That one heat was to my little girl.. and my girl was mad she did not do better..

I did, and still do like rodeo.. talked to a pretty good bull rider once upon a time.. told me it was a life for him to follow the rodeo circuit and try to make it a living..

Did not mention.. the rodeo arenas should not be changed.. it is part of the west in my mind and we should keep all those things.. Nothing seems more fitting in a western city then having a rodeo.. hope they all keep them..

St George is growing and some of the things are changing and not in my estimation for the better but so goes life. Sometimes it is still possible to see cowboys herding cattle along the edge of the highway. On the back roads, the dirt ones, the cattle may be driven down the road. We got in one of those drives one day and the leader told me to go on ahead and not worry about scattering the cattle. I told my wife to roll up her window and she reluctantly did. She was glad she had when one of the bovines came up to her window and gave it a big slobbering kiss. My wife's dad was a butcher who did custom butchering so she mostly only saw cattle as carcasses in the cutting room.

Grouse hunting. One of my true passions in life. I’ll be making the annual trek on the 27th from my home in South Carolina to the great Northwoods of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I make the almost 1,200 mile one way drive each year at this time because I refuse to fly my dog in cargo. I’ll be staying at my small lake cabin until the first week of November, all for the sake of hunting grouse with my dog and friends. I’ve been hunting upland birds for 50+ years and started an informal club with my closest friends a few years ago called Hair of the Dog. Our tenet can be seen on the pic below, hanging in the entrance of my cabin. We started with six members and are currently at three. Two have passed on and one doesn’t participate anymore due to health issues. My heart rate picks up just thinking about it.

Thank you. My Yooper friends are the best of the best. Love them all. We’re very selective in club members but you never know. Others have been invited to join and they’ve not received a second invitation. They’re always welcome at the cabin (camp in Yooper language). Good people, just not the type I want hunting over my dog. Time is a non renewable resource. Spend it wisely.
