someone on OPP said I did not care if people were hurt by inflation.. that is not so. and I am also affected by the price gouging..

Went to get a little corn for my geese yesterday.. 50# bag which is just a bit less the one bushel.. cost $13 and change per bag.. now if the farmer gets the lions share of that I am ok with it.. but he does not. the system has a long line of middle men companies between the farmer and the buyer.. they each grab a big chunk and that is what and who we are paying in our system..

Frosts me for sure..

Do you think the people who harvest the corn are affected by the price of gas and diesel fuel? Or by the price of fertilizer? Are there new middlemen in the system who weren't there before? Are they not necessary? If not, let's get them out. I think you might find that the biggest barrier to that might be the government and all the regulations the farmers, and middlemen have to jump over. Trump was instrumental in getting rid of red tape. It seems everyone wants to get into the act and help their bank account - some without doing anything to add to the production process.

The corn being sold now is from prior years. This years crop has not yet been harvested.. the Middlemen have been around for years.. the price per expectations on the future. We pay now for what may be true in January..

Most modern farmers I think base strategy on future grain prices as posted in various ag publications.. we the super small buyers just go and pay top retail price of the day..

So to go back to the start of your post... farmers do not get to set the price they sell at.. they must choose among those offered.. usually for the small farmer that is the price at the nearest elevator.. Not sure how large orders must be to negotiate a better price or what the delv requirements are.... when I was a little kid living on a small farm it was never ever possible..

As for the system that farmers have to use.. so manipulated it would take a book or two just to outline it.. and the Mpls milling powers from the 1800 played the major roll to create that system.. very interesting history which is not about war for a change.. red tape and market control is very old tactics.. I do not think Biden and company have passed an ag bill..

Don't expect it to get better as long as progressive socialists control the government and agribusiness. The small farm is a thing of the past. They can't compete with the large agribusinesses. Idiots such as Bloomberg think all you do is put a seed in the ground, add some water, and watch it grow. China is buying acres and acres of agricultural land. You don't really think they are going to produce crops and animal feed for us. It's going to all go to China. But we can't buy farms in China. The asymmetry that exists between the two countries needs to be addressed. Congress should immediately pass legislation to prevent China for purchasing farmland. FJB won't advocate for this because he is beholden to China.

Interesting.. I sent a letter concerning the China and farm land.. wow, I got a letter thanking me for my concern.. this is one thing I have said we darn well better see progress on this.. it becomes more complicated according to articles I have been referred to..

This years corn crop is looking very good to my surprise.. rain in much of the corn belt sufficient .. Drought in the human food areas.. so eat well while you can.. this does concern me..

It is not socialists who are running the system.. just plain old greedy business guys.. but we should be very concerned about the food supply in all the coming years,, it will get much worse rather then better. Control of the food supply has been a dream of totalitarians from the day some woman first planted a garden..

Biden , beholden to China? How and why??

Back to the farm land sale again.. one major problem is the law is pretty much agreed that an owner can sell to any one who offers the best price.. and all that..

Biden could be subject to blackmail by the Chinese! Don't you follow the news? He has his nose so far up Xi's butt.
He didn't make his money from his salary in government.

Err . They don’t control the government.
Citizens United Oligarchians control the government.
Who is going to pass legislation that would somehow benefit youz?
Haven’t you heard , you are now inconsequential.
A commodity at best.

No, most use the insider trading or variations of it.. and again, why claim that Xi and Joe are in cahoots???

You are missing a simple point and twisting the truth. I'm not claiming cahoots... just the opposite. Biden can be easily blackmailed by the Chinese. He is inconsequential to Xi. Pelosi makes money by insider trading. Biden isn't smart enough to do so. Instead, he is selling out this country.

Why would Xi be in cahoots with Biden. Xi owns him.

If a business foresees a problem which could cost them, then it is responsible to try to offset the costs ahead of time.

Price gouging... which do you think is more logical.. that a bunch of POLs are telling the world what to do with prices , or that the finance dept. of any or each company sees a way to make more money from the public.

they see nearly an entire world which has saved money due to being locked down by the pandemic, now an urge to spend, buy new stuff, different stuff and all that is needed for a business to gain some of that money is to mark up prices a bit..

It is basic bottom line management to them.. they care nothing about well being of the people..

If you do not like the FED raising rates on lending, what tactic do you think we should use?
To my thinking we are very limited on what we can chose..

Also we should be aware, the business are doing very well. record profit in some cases.. job abound, wages are up.. other then inflation, we do have a pretty good economy..

I am glad it is not my job to figure it out.. but it will get done..

everyone in on it? I could list a few pages of price markups off the rails.. so it seems very many are following the same advice.. so much for the free market system.. When what we want is marked up, we still will buy under these conditions.
