Is sentence fair? No doubt about guilt. Laws in many foreign countries are much tougher. Sentence would have been much lighter here. We will see what happens next?
If you go to another country and ignore their laws this is what you get. Just because you have name recognition doesn't exempt you from their laws.

I think in this case she deserves to stay right there. I don’t believe for one second she didn’t know what she had in her bag. She most likely thought she is a big bad ass professional basketball player and the Russians would let her go right through. Nine years is a long sentence but I bet Russia doesn’t have as much drug problems as we do. Who knows maybe she will find another love in Russia.
As far as the “business man” (can’t remember his name) that is being held was there spying
then he should stay as well. If he wasn’t then the State Department needs to bring him home.
