The Bible established the framework for our civilization to form and grow.
Successive books of various subjects by superb authors expanded our understanding of the messages in the Bible, and of our daily lives. Western civilization owes much to the literary efforts of truly towering intellects of the past, and it is very apparent that the influence of the Bible runs deep in their works, even if they were not practicing Christians.
Some of these authors are very well-known indeed: I will mention just a few:
Shakespeare...St. Thomas Aquinas...Dante...Cicero...Plato...Aristotle ...Homer...Dostoevsky...Kipling...Dickens...Chesterton...Conrad...Gandhi...
and hundreds more that illuminated many of the corners of life on this planet, how they faced their trials, the sins they uncovered, and always shaping the meaning of life to them. As Jordan Peterson says, we sample these works, and it colors our view of life and religion forever.
And it all began with just one monumental book: The Bible, that has shaped our Western Society to value the religion of Christianity and ensures that we shall survive the crushing onrush of secularization.
If it wasn't for the Bible I doubt the best thing to happen to Europe besides the US military, the age of enlightenment would've never happened.

At this point hope, vote and prayer seems to be the best path to take, maryla. I have railed against the oncoming leftist train for years, and with god's help, we will get where we should have been all along.

Well my interpretation of enlightenment is within reason of the Bible scope, but that would give us secular smart people not in line with the Word. Now on the Bible aspect, accountability of the individual would have them understand that the good of a person would fall in the Bible /God side with us recognizing our faults and wanting to help our fellow man or woman, not for the profit in the world. Just thinking.

Scripture tells us a different story, maryla (is that Mary in LA?). God will be there, but His ways are not for us to know. I cannot pull up from memory any special Bible quote from memory to buttress that statement, but one would not be hard to find. He will not abandon us!

you'd think people might wise up and start thanking God for their blessings...

There are indications that people are fed up with how things are going and are returning to the churches. That can only be a good sign, and perhaps more and more are indeed thanking God.
So, I got the Mary part right!
