Computer Problem
I have repaired PCs for close to 30 years but now I have a problem that has me beat. It is a bright yellow pop-up (attached). This happens on my Toshiba laptop with Win 10 Professional. I also have Win 10 Professional on my desktop but I don't have this problem.
On both computers I have Norton 360 and on the laptop I have ran a complete scan and also ran the Norton Power Erasure. On both computers they both have identical software installed.
Restarting has no effect on this pop-up.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I use Ubuntu (Linux) operating system, open source software is much more stable than Windows, don't even need internet security software, and it isn't loaded with commercials and ads and other garbage that eats up time and uses lots of memory.

I've considered that, might download it and try it. Windows does have lots of problems.

I recently got Windows 11 and there are a lot of bugs to it. I'm also thinking of Linux because I'm sick of Windows and Microsoft. If you do end up getting it, could you PM me and let me know how you like it? I don't know anyone who has it.
Thanks.

I love it, Emily, Linux is a streamlined and efficient OS, easy to manage and without a ton of garbage to deal with. No need to purchase virus protection or internet security software.
Last year I bought a Dell Optiplex with Windows 10 installed.
It had so much junk in it that inside two months, the system crashed and was unrecoverable.
Fortunately, the warranty allowed me to return it for a replacement.
Unfortunately, the replacement did the same thing.
So, I requested and received a refund and got a computer with Linux installed.

I believe that Linux is basically what Macs have installed.

What version of Linix do you recommend?

Thank you! I've had that same problem. Pop-ups. Forced updates (the other day I was in the middle of a long letter to a friend whose mother died...I put a lot of heart and soul in that letter. Microsoft sent an update that just started with no warning. No way to stall it and no way to cancel it. I was forced to sit there for half an hour while it did the update....and I lost the letter. I was unable to save it or copy it, and had to start all over.)
That shouldn't happen in this day and age! So I'm looking to replace it once and for all. I will definitely be looking into Linux tomorrow! I'm sick of the dictatorial way Microsoft runs it's product.
Thanks again! 🙂👍👍👍

Based primarily on NEXT, NEXTSTEP and the Unix systems, Apple wrote their own OS for the Macs.

A few hours ago I went to the DOS prompt and ran chkdsk /R and while rebooting that command was ran and so far it seems like it took care of my problem but I am still considering Linux.

EmilyD,
I've been using various versions of Linux for at least 20 years and Ubuntu Linux for 14 years. I personally love it. I can do everything with it that Windows can do and a lot more. Most of the linux releases will provide a live version (Live Desktop) that you can download, burn to a disk or flash drive and boot from it to try it out without affecting your existing operating system.
You can also install most Linux versions along side your windows and choose which one to use on startup. If you do that and decide you don't like Linux you can easily find instructions on the web that give you step-by-step how to remove it.
Linux is no longer the "Geek's" OS, in fact my 7 year old grandson uses Linux Lite on a mini laptop that I gave him after finding him using one of my Linux boxes to play games.
I will recommend that you download a version that you would like to try and put it on a flash drive and play with it enough to get used to the desktop and how it performs.
Linux also runs great on older computers that will no longer handle windows.
