What's on your bucket list?

I just watched that movie, and the list of their "kick the bucket" things to do before they die...and then started thinking what I would put on my own bucket list. I came up with two things so far (fly a kite - yes, I've never done that; and visit with Queen Elizabeth for lunch).....so what would you put on your list?

Here's the list from the movie (it's a great list!):

1. Witness something truly majestic
2. Help a complete stranger
3. Laugh until I cry
4. Drive a Shelby Mustang
5. Kiss the most beautiful girl in the world
6. Get a tattoo
7. Skydiving
8. Visit Stonehenge
9. Drive a motorcycle on the Great Wall of China
10. Go on a Safari
11. Visit the Taj Mahal
12. Sit on the Great Egyptian Pyramids
13. Find the Joy in your life

Due to the worldwide threat of war, I narrowed my bucket list down to the United States.

Fishing and collecting eagle feathers in Alaska is on my list.

And there are quite a few places that I've already been, that I want to visit again.

NO ONE, other than Alaskan natives, are allowed to own a single eagle's feather. You can actually go to prison if you're caught with eagle feathers and/or be fined up to $250,000 for being in possession of one.
Go fishing instead. I've been fishing in Alaska and one of my 'bucket wishes' was to go 'combat' fishing on the Kenai river and I got to spend a day there doing that. It was awesome.

Wow! I didn't realize that! Thank you for the information!

Remember the lady who made a dream catcher for Hillary? She was charged with a crime for having an eagle feather.

I lived on the Kenai Peninsula for 23 years.

Alaska is majestic! Fishing for silvers beats fishing for kings. But kings taste better. “Combat” fishing, btw, is for tourists (Alaskans call them “pukers”, and Anchorage residents were considered tourists by Kenai residents because “they live near Alaska”)

I didn’t know that about eagle feathers either (or I forgot).

We had a moose make her home in our neighborhood and we got to see her and her calf every year.

Ahh, Alaska life was filled with wonder! For a while (two different places actually) we lived in a cabin with a view of the inlet including of course Redoubt and Iliamna. Spectacular! Both my daughters were born at home in a log cabin with no running water, heated by wood (‘82 & ‘84) in Clam Gulch, AK, on S. Cohoe Loop Rd. We bought a normal home shortly after that (‘85) between Soldotna & Sterling.

Thanks for triggering the memories!

PS Alaska should be on everyone’s bucket list!

After reading this, I did put it on my list! I might even decide to drive there (from upstate NY!!). I love seeing the countryside! So far in the past 5 years we've driven to Texas, Colorado, Florida, Washington State and Idaho...Alaska shouldn't be too much! 😉😊

You won’t be disappointed, at least, not as far as scenery and wildlife go (no such promises on the wear on your vehicle)! I’ve been on the Alcan Hwy 6 times, and that was before it was paved. Forty some years ago Liard Hot Springs was a must visit (not just “see”) I have no idea what it’s like now.

Coincidentally, when I moved my wife up there in 1980, we met a couple from Rochester, NY and became travel partners.

Good advice! I will put those notes on my bucket list!

Rochester is about an hour north of where I live....very close to Lake Canandaigua (one of the Finger Lakes) and Naples, NY. Alaska would be an epic drive, but very doable in our retirement. We're getting excited about it now that it's "on paper"! 👍❕

Another tip... I would recommend doing one direction on the ferry. My wife and I did the ferry from Prince Rupert to Haines. That cut out quite a chunk of the driving. The view of the glaciers and the sea life, just breathtaking!

There are numerous routes you can choose from.

Wonderful! I just glanced at the link you sent and specifically tried to find Covid information for traveling on the ferries and cruise ships. It seems you must be vaccinated to do so. I couldn't find specific information, so I made a phone call and the woman told me that in all likelihood, wherever I want to use public transportation, I will be required to have proof of vaccination - which I don't. We'll have to get those answers, and then plan another way to get there other than depending on those methods of travel. Too bad if we can't, too. It sounds very beautiful.

Ha! We spent several days at Clam Gulch . . . clamming during a very low tide. Amazing! I still have some of the shells from the razor clams we dug. It was amazing how big chunks of coal would wash up new each day and there'd be people with pickups picking up the coal. Further up from where we were digging, a large female grizzly with a cub in tow was also clamming. Obviously you understand where my pseudonym comes from. Iliamna was venting the whole time we were camped across the bay from that majestic volcano. VERY GOOD memories from Alaska. We caught our legal limit each day on the Kenai and met quite a few locals who were also fishing (combat style) on the Kenai. We also had to retreat to our RV when a large male moose wandered into the area. We saw a lot of moose and bear across the state. I was blessed to have stayed there for 2 months and then I had to return to work in Texas, but we drove down the Al-Can to Seattle where I caught a flight back to Austin..

Yeah, I guess I won’t be doing any of that public travel either for the same reason!

Yeah, sounds awesome! It’s just so beautiful up there!

In case anyone reading along is curious about combat fishing…. http://www.alaskafishingak.com/salmonfishing/combat_fishing.htm

I always preferred quieter areas. I fished the mouth of Crooked Creek a lot. It was barely a rabbit trail to get to back then. Not anymore.

Good movie... Two of my favorite actors...

I don't think I have a bucket list...
Although there are people I'd like to see again...
