SUVs are assault weapons. They need to be banned. Nobody needs them. A media idiot blamed the SUV instead of the driver for the Waukesha parade mass murder.

No need to ban them, the best thing is to register them and require drivers to pass a driving test and maintain a license and insurance. This will not eliminate the threat but will certainly reduce it.

We clearly need Universal Background Checks on all auto sales, drivers license applications, and voter registrations!

They’ll just stop using SUVs and switch to F-150s.

Where do you go to drive any vehicle without a license, other than on private property?

These States Do Not Require Auto Insurance
This may not be the bargain it sounds like
Car Insurance is a major cost of car ownership, but it is considered so important that most states require coverage by law. However, not all 50 states require coverage, and many states offer alternatives to insurance company coverage.
Even in the states with no car insurance requirement, it's not good to forgo car insurance coverage, because those states don't allow car owners to escape the costs of an accident. You might not get fined for driving without insurance, but you will be held liable for the costs if you are found to have been at fault.
There are just two states that don't require car insurance:
New Hampshire and Virginia.
Car insurance is not mandatory in New Hampshire, but residents are still responsible for damages resulting from a car accident: up to $50,000 for liability and $25,000 for property damage. Drivers who are not able to pay for damages can expect to have their licenses and registrations suspended.
Virginia residents can skip getting car insurance if they pay the state $500 per year. However, that does not provide accident coverage of any kind. The driver who caused the accident is still liable.
Why is car insurance required?
The primary reason that car insurance is mandatory is to protect the victims in an accident. If you're at fault in an accident and you don't have insurance, you may not have the means to cover damages to property or people in the other vehicle. Liability coverage ensures that the other driver will have their damages covered.
What is the minimum required car insurance in most states?
Most states require liability coverage for bodily injury and property damage, which covers the other driver if you're at fault in a wreck. The exact amount of required liability coverage varies by state, and some states require additional coverage, such as uninsured motorists or personal injury protection.
What insurance is required for a financed car?
If you finance a car, your lender will probably require additional insurance above your state requirements. A lender wants to ensure its collateral—in this case, your car— is protected. At a minimum, most lenders will require you to carry comprehensive and collision coverage until your loan is paid off.

We already have those laws. All vehicles driven on the road and all drivers have those requirements. Darrel Brooks had recently tried to run over his girl friend with this same SUV. Going back to 1999, Mr. Brooks has been arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, strangulation, suffocation, and possession of drugs.

Obviously this vehicle has the assault weapon potential of a firearm, and yet Mr. Brooks had no trouble possessing it legally.

Your contributions to these discussions are always very valuable and I hope you will continue to drop in and give us the benefits of your amazing insights.

Cars, like guns, don’t kill. Bad people do.

I can't believe you just said that...do you realize those are already the requirement did that stop this or the 100s of other ones just like it? How about keeping repeat criminals in jail maybe that would help.

Something did occur to me after your post. If a gun/knife/golf club/whatever is used in the commission of a crime or suspected crime, the police usually hold those items as evidence till after the trial. I wonder why the SUV wasn't held pending outcome of him trying to kill his girlfriend with it? PS-I'm not suggesting the SUV is responsible or that he wouldn't have used a different vehicle, just wondering why if it was used in commision of crime, he still had possession!

Actually that's a good idea. Pulling someone's licence doesn't help either people just ignore it.

Well now you really just opened up a can or worms. I was about to start a new topic, but this is just as good a place right here. The people who let this suspect out on such a small bail, I say suspect cause I am not a rush to judgement guy, need to be identified. Funny thing about that. If this guy would ever answer his phone perhaps, maybe, possibly someone could think to ask your question.

Once out on bail if confiscated, you can settle the fees and retrieve your vehicle.
