Today Fareed Zakaria of CNN made an interesting observation. Around four million low wage workers in this country are quitting their jobs every month. He compared the wages of unskilled workers in this country with those in Western Europe and we were not even close. It wasn't long ago we were in first place that category. Now we aren't even in the top ten. As an example, Danish McDonald workers make over twenty dollars an hour.
Some folks believe that people are quitting their jobs because they are lazy, or why should they work when the government gives them money for not working? I admit that these thoughts have crossed my mind in the past.
Zakaria went on to say that the high wages in Europe have not hurt the economy, in fact it has boosted European economies. That makes sense if you think about it. The higher the wages, the more workers can buy, and the more taxes the government takes in. High tides boost the level of all the boats, not just luxury liners.
Here in South Carolina, minimum wages are about seven bucks an hour. Nobody can support themselves on that salary, much less their family. It's high time we treated workers more fairly in this country.

Minimum wage is not intended as a minimum subsistence wage.

Minimum wage should be more than 7 bucks an hour.

We start trainees at 15 bucks an hour.

10 bucks should be the current minimum wage.

The only suitable wage is what that person brings to the success of the company, and a moderate profit level for the investers. Government workers should never be able to make more then what is comparable to that level of work in the civilian area, and what it brings.

Companies are not in business to give workers a job. They are in business to make a reasonable profit for the owners and investors, who took the risks to start the company and probably worked their asses off.

Demanding minimum wages that are beyond the level of your net worth to the company, in today's environment, just hurts the company. If it fails, you are all out of a job and the owner and investors see their investment and hard work evaporate. Everyone loses.

But you socialists think you can demand a certain return on labor, that is not earned. But the total investment that labor adds to the economic health of the company, is the only qualifying factor in play.. Everybody eventually starves, except the dictators who forced unjustified wages on companies. And the overall economy and country eventually fails.

Those are the facts and indisputable.

Logically Right

As for Denmark , people pay an average of 45% tax rate combined.

As for McDonald’s paying 20 bucks an hour….Cost of a McMeal:
Switzerland….$16.37
Norway….$14.36
Denmark…$11.74
U S…………..$8.00

Strongly suggest you get the facts before you set off down that Yellow Brick Road of all would be well if only the U S would increase the minimum wage! Better yet, why don’t you move to Denmark and let us know how it works out!!!! I am sure they would welcome you with open arms! Just some facts and commentary.

Do you really think that any employer, offering only minimum wage, is getting any applicants?

When was your last contact with reality?

I guarantee if the unemployment stopped people would go to work.Unemployment was started to supplement seasonal workers between the season's to help them thru a few months when they will return to their jobs in spring. NOT to support people for a lifetime. I took 2 continual jobs at a time for 20 years because I had no education I quit school in high school. But at 30 I went back to school got my RN and only had one job since. If you work a high school type of after school job to begin in the workforce you don't get played like those who choose a profession.Burger King and Taco time is not meant to support a family.

Individual taxes in Denmark are up to 52%, 55% Atm. Look it up. Low income pay no taxes in America, they get everything, and often more back atvend of year.
