Answer: a series, let's say 5 or 6, of one term presidencies.

Let me explain. It appears that over the past few decades, more and more of the powers of the federal government have shifted to the executive branch. Whether through inertia, an inability to adapt, or the 2 year election cycle (I include the Senate because a portion a up for election every 2 yrs.), Congress has been unable to set the direction of the country. What gets done depends on who is President, and often relies on the directives and orders of that individual, and the ability of that individual to drag Congress along, trying to get legislation that is constitutionally necessary to implement those policies. I would argue that in some cases, even that drag on the power of the executive is being frayed.

Those 5 or 6 alternating administrations would not have to be 'failures' just because there was no re-election, that is just the way we interpret presidential success currently. The whiplash in the executive branch would, I hope (because that is now all I have left) force the legislative branch to reclaim it's constitutional role to enact policy: to reclaim it's rightful, and necessary, place in the federal government.

I'm usually an optimist when it comes our nation, but these are trying times.
I really hope that the American people figure out what's ailing us and negotiate with ourselves to come to an understanding. The only place that negotiation can take place is in Congress. One way to do that is for us not to re-elect the same administration twice. I'm not advocating term one term limits for presidents. I'm advocating that the American people sit down and talk, through their representatives in Congress, figure out what they want to do and then have presidents implement those policies, which is their role.

I know this is simplified....but I didn't want to write a pamphlet.

I like your idea. For it to work however, voters would have to be more engaged in the elections of our congress critters.

Sometimes simple is the best approach. Get people engaged and we can affect change. It has to start there.

I can agree with that, less criminals would be a great thing. And then there are those lying liars as identified by a man who was prescient about what what to come in politics, I suppose.
