Thanks, Rose. I never tire of hearing this beautiful song, sung best by Bobby Hatfield/Righteous Brothers. I had heard it first by Frank Ifield....in the late 50s, I believe. But, no one can come close to Hatfield's cover.

" 'Unchained Melody' is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, i…" The original, from the movie...

I read somewhere that he won a coin toss on who was to sing it between the two. I have no idea if thats really true.

I’ve heard numerous nice renditions but Bobby Hatfield owns this song.

It also strikes me that there is so much range and it looks so effortless for him.

I found this video on the sidebar. It is a clip of an old Andy Williams show with Righteous Brothers explanation of how they came up with their name!

That song takes me back to High School and riding around the big town 😂 of Seminole, Texas from the Little Chief Drive Inn to the Dairy Queen with 3 other friends and listening to KOMA out of Oklahoma City! Only one of us had a car! We would pool our change to buy gas for the night! 🤗

The way he sings it gives me goosebumps.

Andy Williams was good too. Remember the old days of live tv - Carol Burnett, Ed Sullivan and others. And I still like old shows like I Love Lucy!

Saturday night and the Ed Sullivan show! I remember the night that the Beatles were introduced.....I wasn’t impressed! 😂

Carrol Burnett with Tim Conway was so funny!

My favorite I Love Lucy show was the one when she and Ethel got the job of making candy! I’ve see it many times and still laugh!

I remember KOMA, 1520 on the AM dial. DJ named Dale Lawiva (maybe) had the Viva Lawiva show - one cold winter night he came on with the weather update and said “ladies and gentlemen, a warning - it’s gonna get cold tonight so if you have any brass monkeys outside, you better bring em in”. LOL!!
(If that went over anyone’s head, let me know and I will clear it up.) 😂😂😎😎

I don’t remember that DJ but I can still here the way the announcer said, This is KOMA in Ok’lahoma City! ☺️
We could only get it in the late evening after they boosted the wattage!

I have to admit I wasn’t completely sure about the brass monkeys.......my husband promptly cleared it up for me! 😂🤣😎

Good for him, glad you now know...”yours truly K-OMA, Ok’lahoma City”.
The station of my youth. I remember one December the DJs kept saying “effective January 1st, KOMA will be a thing of the past”. All of us teens were concerned KOMA was going off the air! NOT, just played oldies all day January 1st, wish I could remember the year. 🤔😕
