The Greatest

It's amazing how convenient it is to ignore history....
History holds the truth !!!

Rocky Marciano

When's the last time you heard the name Marciano mentioned on any
sports show? If you grew up in the 40’s and 50’s, you listened to most
of his fights on radio since they weren't carried on the limited TV
(ABC, NBC & CBS) of the time and Pay Per View didn’t exist. His fights
with Ezzard Charles, were epics Rocky didn't know about "Rope a Dope".
His secret trick was to just put his opponent to sleep in the middle
of the ring . . .. 49 wins and no losses.

Marciano and his record will be buried forever in sports
history. He is the only undefeated (49 -0) Heavyweight Champion in the
history of boxing. He was also drafted and served in the army.

Just so you know..A lot of people have this title confused.
The Greatest Boxer of All Time: Didn't die recently...he died 47 years ago.
He didn't have 5 losses, he had 0. . .. None! !
He didn't have 37 Knock Outs he had 43 (88%).
He didn't dodge the draft.

He wasn't a race baiter and sure as hell didn't convert to Islam.

He didn't have 9 kids with 6 different women.

He was a local kid named Rocky Marciano, aka The Brockton Blockbuster.

Don't let the mainstream media idolize false prophets.
When he was asked on TV if he could've knocked out Ali in his prime
his response was oh so classical!!
"I'd be conceited if I said I could've, but I'd be a liar if I said I couldn't".

Real name: Rocco Francis Marchegiano

Don’t make American Italians like that one.. some of us idolize a black dancer who changed his name and became openly Muslim because Muslims don’t kill. What do they call lopping off heads? Great post.

Nothing against Ali but I always thought Marciano was a better fighter. Ali was never the greatest to me.

I remember Marciano because my dad was a big fight fan. A neighbor of ours was also a pro middleweight fighter. My dad also was an amateur 'prize fighter' during the depression when the winner got a wrist watch or some other such prize. According to my uncle dad was damn good winning most fights via knockout but then he met my mom and she put an end to any hopes of a boxing career. I recall watching the greats of the 50's on Monday Night Fights with my dad but just don't sit too close to him because he'd be throwing punches the whole time. Thanks for the memory.

I enjoyed the Friday night fights. Back then you could keep up with who the up and coming fighters were. Now days I guess it just aint "PC" to hav "Box'n" on TV. Back then there were 8 weight classes and a belt ment something. Now days there are at least 4 alphabet orginazations all with their own "CHAMPIONS" and almost all weight classes have been divided into: like the ...Junior Lightweight, Lightweight and then the Super Lightweight. So now there is over a 100 titles instead of 8:

Heavyweight 200+ lbs
Light Heavyweight 168-175 lbs
Middleweight 154-160 lbs
Welterweight 140-147 lbs
Lightweight 130-135 lbs
Featherweight 122-126 lbs
Bantamweight 115-118 lbs
Flyweight 108-112 lbs

He was far and away the very best toe to toe fighter of all time. Frazier was also that style fighter and ook what he did to Ali in the final round of their first bout.
