We've Always Called It A Blue Norther

This ain't the first time Texas has felt the chill of the polar jet stream.

I remember one winter, when I was a boy, Texas froze over and me and my two big brothers thought it was a miracle from God that got us out of school and into the wild yonders.

We saddled up and took to the pastures north of Grandpa's barns and played like wild Indians.

We built everything from snowmen to igloos and my dad had to threaten to spank our hides just to get us to come in from the snow.

Early today I went out for a trek in my four wheeler and remembered the days when we rode our horses in the snow anytime we got a blast from a Blue Norther.

So for those of you who have not yet been properly educated, the phenomena we are now experiencing is called "Winter".

It happens every year and lasts a couple to a few months give or take a week or two.

Maybe this time you will learn and you won't have it so rough next time there comes a Blue Norther............Goober

We have about 30 inches. Looking for a trek in the woods this weekend through woods and open field full of deer.

We used snow mobiles (sleds) in Michigan in drifts so deep you would disappear if you forgot and jumped off the side to push

I have a well and a big brand new generator used just enough to break it in, I've loaned a neighbor my smaller generator as we have outages that can last up to a week. It's a mistake to disrespect people who live in denser populations that are not set up to weather outages. People live in cities that grew up country most of their lives and for different reasons have had to change how they live, and those changes cause the loss of the independence they grew up with.

All my neighbors know that of they need water they can get it from me anytime. I have gone over to help get stubborn generators going many times.

It's all relative. I have relatives that lived in the south and in California. They would be in a panic any time they got an inch of snow and the temperature fell into the mid to upper 20s. We'll get a foot or two of snow and temperatures down to the -20s. Of course you go a little further north, and they would consider the Texas weather as summertime.
