DNA Discovery Trauma

I’m new to this forum. Interested in success stories of people that were traumatized when they discovered thru DNA testing that they weren’t who they thought they were. What/how did they eventually accept who they are now?

My cousin (age 62) found out her dad was not her dad this past summer. Her mom's first husband was purportedly her dad, he wasn't the best person. Her mom (my aunt) always was putting her down saying she'd be just like her dad, dishonest, and be fat like her dad's sister.
She felt like her whole life was a lie, and she didn't know who she was. Luckily she's married to a terrific guy, and they've got 3 great sons, and everyone supported her through this. But she told me it was an incredible shock and really rocked her.

Welcome to OPP, and great opening post🌞🌞🌞

Fortunately , that is a question I don't have to think about. It is nice however to have a poster like you that poses
thought provoking questions.

Few years back my mom took a DNA test and learned that her dad wasn't her dad

He was ten years dead, and they weren't close...

Awkward conversation with my grandmother though

Nah... It's cool... My mom is fine with it... Except she's named for the guy😂😂😂

When she confronted my grandma she asked who her real father was and my grandma told her that was hard to say... There were a number of options😂😂😂😂

My mom was born after my grandma's first divorce... He was an abusive drunk... And my grandma went through a rough period...

I'm a recovering alcoholic, and I often wondered if the genetic aspect had any merit. Then my Dad died, and we cremated him. It took three days for that fire to go out...
