An American Culture?

Multiple Cultures and Factions Prevail.

Our culture is sliced up into many pieces or factions; so much so that the common elements are very few. Consider the following slices and dices among many:

Rich Man/ Poor Man

Democrat/Republican

Democrat/Conservative

Democrat/Progressive

Liberal/Conservative

Liberal/Progressive

Republican/Conservative

Republican/Progressive
Democratic/Libertarian

Republican/Libertarian

Radical Right/Radical Left

Educated/Uneducated

White collar/Blue Collar

Religion I /Religion II /Religion III/ etc.

Religious/Non-Religious

Christian/Atheist

Christian/Non-Christian

Truth Teller/Habitual Liar

Patriot/Non-Patriot

Elite/Non-Elite

Givers/Takers

Ethical/Unethical

Moral/Immoral

Cultural Snob/Cultural Boor

Pro-America/Anti-America

Intelligent/Unintelligent

Strong/Weak

Military Experience/No Military Experience

Pride in Birth Area 1/Pride in Area 2,3...n

Ordinary Citizen/ Elite Citizen

Ordinary Citizen/Politician

Ordinary Citizen/Congressman

Ordinary Citizen/ Entrepreneurial

Leader/Follower

Statist/Federalist

Federated Republican/Collectivist, or Humanist, or Socialist or Communist (who adopted the term "Progressive" to disguise their affiliation, which is becoming more and more obvious every day!)

Management/Workers

Business Man/Others

Citizen Today/Citizen Past/Citizen Tomorrow

Lawyer/Citizen

Fluent in English/Not Fluent in English

Born American/Immigrant/Illegal Immigrant

Upstanding Citizen/Criminal

And all shades in between, with many gradations and combinations!

It is little wonder that we continuously have serious conflicts, clashes in beliefs, and ultimately nasty invective between opposing views, particularly when beliefs run so strongly, often challenging deeply held religious, emotional, inherited or reasoned beliefs! Many times the opposition uses unfair tactics to shut the citizen up and denigrate him, hoping to send him away.

We are a multicultural hodge-podge living our separate very uniquely human lives, and many, many different lifestyles, but held together socially by at least eight or so very strong beliefs and common goals:
The value of strength in numbers;
the rule of law;
the joys of our freedoms;
The economic system;
the best place to raise our children;
the opportunities for betterment,
a compelling work ethic, and in,
the love of this country. (There are more reasons, of course…)

All of our diverse cultural components contribute to a peculiar synthesis one might call an “American Culture,” but if examined closely, it quickly dissolves into some or even all of its constituent or factional parts, and even harkens back to quite different historical origins and allegiances. I suppose that if there must be such factions, it is a real blessing to have so many factions that their opinions and strengths tend to cancel each other out!

How many discussions or arguments between two people have been completely biased by their opposing factional belief systems, preventing any mutual understandings? For that matter, do we know all of the factions and ideologies our adversaries hold close? Most likely not!

The remarkable thing is that this federated, democratic, republican form of national government, with its written Constitution as the Law of the Land, has successfully held together for nearly 240 years, despite many sweeping ideological differences along the way. The differences have persisted to this day and have again become a serious divisive force in the nation.

It is time for those who believe in America, its Constitution, its common laws and its founding principles to stand up and fight for them!

How can the population of the U.S. become reunited?

Let's be honest. Trump brought out the worst in all of us. No one was happy, not even those who were ‘winning’. Trump separated the 2 sides and drove a wedge right through the middle and opened up divisions that ANY SOCIETY HAS and the fact that he exposed them is not a bad thing.

The main thing is do you believe in the fundamental goodness of people as Biden does or do you see life as transactional where you don’t like either side but just use one and pit them against the other like Trump.

Many recent studies have shown and the pandemic has proven, we are not like “Lord of the Flies’ where we turn on each other once there are shortages. It is remarkable how millions of Americans have pitched in and reminds us that the US is exceptional and not in all the bad ways that Trump has brought out.

I fully expect a flowering of literature, of compromise, of working together of a mini-baby boom. People will want to turn their back on the Trump era which never forget had its lowest point with the pandemic.

If you believe in a higher being or even if you do not, it should be comforting to know that by far the largest number of Americans want to be in the middle every way.

We chose a uniter, an older white guy who is already showing us that while he is not perfect we are not perfect. He has chosen experience, he has walked the walk so far and I believe he will lead us with his team to a good 2021 when the pandemic will end and then 3 years of outstanding growth and progress across several fronts. This man will calmly lead America during this period and we will be happy that he is there. He will pray with us, he will not be spectacular but he will bring us together.

The era of Trump will fade and with it, will come a flowering of the USA that we have not seen in a long time.

Of course it can.
We need to change what we accept. We need jobs, we need better healthcare, we need cost of living raises for all. Better public schools, free colleges, affordable housing for everyone. Honest politicians, money out of politics, less electoral college nonsense, police who protect and serve. Non profit hospitals.
Renovated highways and bridges, a reeled in Fed and Treasury.
A Dow that represents a larger portion of population .
Less Citizens United. No crooked Supreme justices.
The right appears fine with the status quo, the left is not.
If you plan to fight for less don’t complain to me.
This could be one of this country’s biggest years. Next year even bigger.

And if you are wrong and you don't end up with any of those things, what then? Will it be too late to go back to those things that were already happening in the country before Trump was sabotaged? You better hope they will, or the future will be looking very bleak for everyone - including you. You will not be exempt from the control just because you talk the talk now....

These are things that have been here before republicans got rid of them all.
Think for a minute, the republicans have become middlemen to the population.
We manufacture nothing. They purchase everything we need and sell it to us.
They purchase it for pennies sell it to us for dollars..
They manufacture nothing. They employ no one.
Just collect money. Now they have you believing if we go back to where we were with people working the whole will turn into communists. A lie.
They don’t want you doing anything else, just buying their stuff.
Emily, this is our country. Contrary to what republicans keep telling you.
They are a minority that runs the show. Because we buy their nonsense.

What would be wrong with employee owned businesses? No CEOs.????
See, we are not stuck without opportunities. We are being forced to live without them. By republicans.

What is conflict but struggle? My whole piece was about conflict, or in your terms struggle! It was hardly left out! Can you grasp that?

Please name the things the Reps got rid of. I don’t know what they are. Exactly who is ‘THEY’ who sell us everything we need? In the last 160 years we have had both Rep and Dem in power but I still see wars and poverty. Both party's have been in power at times and both have caused these things. How can you tell me with a straight face that one is good and one is bad. If one is good then the other is good. In 1865 Lincoln promised the freed slaves 40 acres and a mule. A Dem shot and killed Lincoln. His VP was a Dem who canceled that and gave the land back to the plantation owners. In 1968 LBJ made promises but the promises were hot air because nothing promised happened. Looking at a Dem state I see things happening there that I do not think are American. California being the state I mention. The governor goes to parties with more than the number allowed. The Speaker of the House goes to a beauty salon and sues the owner because some employee caught the the Speaker of the Hose not following strict pandemic guidelines. I read in books about the Communist regime in Russia and know that the leadership there did not have to follow the guidelines they forced the people to follow. Do you understand that other people can also read and make connections?
Nothing is wrong with employee owned businesses and I know of no Rep that thinks there is. Why don’t you start one? You write that Rep are the cause of lost opportunities but California has been controlled by Dem for many years. If Dem are so pro-business why are business and people abandoning Calif? Businesses were abandoning Calif before this present time. Several business owners I knew moved from Calif years before now because of the difficulty of obtaining permits to do business.
I vote independently and have ever since 1964. I do not vote for Dem or Rep. I have a rule to never vote for an incumbent. An incumbent politician looks to me like those big yellow slugs you find crawling about in the redwood forests of Northern Calif.
