Despite the pandemic-induced recession, millions of jobless Americans have been kept afloat by an uncharacteristically generous act of Congress. In addition to their state’s usual unemployment payments — usually a fraction of their previous wages — Americans have been eligible to receive and additional $600 a week, desperately needed support for people who saw their incomes crater.

But Republicans have been outraged that the payments were so generous, so they objected to legislation the Democrats passed in May to extend the program. They proposed a number of different ideas to extend the program on a more limited basis, but all these ideas came at the last minute and the GOP caucus couldn’t agree on a single plan. So on Friday, the program officially expires — meaning unemployed Americans who had been receiving a boost of $2,400 a month from the government will suddenly see those payments slashed to zero.

And now, the Senate has gone home for a long weekend.

Here ya go:

The Democrats want jobless people to stay on the dole and be dependent on the government.

The Republicans want people to go back to work and be dependent on themselves.

Is that clear enough for you?

Their normal recess is the entire month. This time they are only taking a week. The House remains in session, not that they will get anything done.

Facism for the masses is a frequent result of Socialism for the rich; a fact that most Liberals have trouble understanding in their quest for a nanny government. You cannot have a Socialist government when you encourage unemployment. Paying $15 hour for bullshit entry level jobs that are disappearing because small businesses cannot afford to pay unskilled labor that much. Unemployment checks that pay more than your job does. Would YOU go back to work?

The perfect solution for this problem is, get a job!
There is plenty of work out there if one really wants to support their
family instead of depending on government assistance.
If you disagree, maybe you should get a job as well.
But then again, only the brainless parasites think it's a good idea
to pay people to stay at home!

That’s a pure load of crap.
Did you just make all that chit up?
This was debunked by a recent study by Harvard.
Your argument doesn’t make any sense.
Who said you should pay $40,000 for a new truck?
Why are houses $200,000?
Why are utilities charging what they are?
But you sad sack only want to focus on the poor slob trying to feed his family knowing everything he does is stacked against him.
Is he really inconsequential?
Only seen as a hindrance for CEOs making more money?
As FDR once said” a necessitous man. Is not a free Man !”
Why do you keep protecting them??
