Congresswoman Makes Reparations Demand on the House Floor: 'Pay Us What You Owe Us'

Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley appeared to call for reparations for the country’s black citizens during a House floor speech Thursday.

The far-left Democrat and member of the self-proclaimed “squad” spoke at length about a perceived systemic bias against black Americans.

Pressley, describing the Black Lives Matter movement as a “mandate” on all of America, said it is time for the country to “pay us what you owe us.”

“I rise today on behalf of every black family that has been robbed of a child,” Pressley said.

“On behalf of every family member that has been forced to see their loved one lynched on national television. Driving while black. Jogging while black. Sleeping while black. We have been criminalized for the very way we show up in the world. Under the harsh gaze of far too many, my black body is seen as a threat, always considered armed,” she added.

“Centuries of institutionalized oppression will not be undone overnight, for racism in America is as structural as the marble pillars of this very institution,” Pressley continued.

“With the power of the pen, we must legislate accountability, dismantle these systems and move in the direction of justice and healing.”

Referring to widespread racial and civil unrest since the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minnesota, Pressley appeared to demand reparations for black Americans.

“There is a rallying cry in communities across the nation. Black Lives Matter is a mandate from the people,” she said.

“It’s time. Pay us what you owe us. Our black skin is not a crime, it is the beautiful robe of nation builders.”

Rep. Ayanna Pressley: "Black Lives Matter is a mandate from the people. It's time -- pay us what you owe us. Our Black skin is not a crime. It is the beautiful robe of nation-builders."

Pressley has previously expressed support for efforts to defund police departments and to end qualified immunity, which protects police officers from lawsuits.

“Qualified immunity shields police from accountability, impedes true justice, and undermines the constitutional rights of every person in this country,” Pressley said in a statement earlier this month.

Pressley’s apparent call for reparations, though, might not find a great deal of support in Congress.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted this week found that only one in five respondents said they support using “taxpayer money to pay damages to descendants of enslaved people in the United States.”

The poll revealed that around 80 percent of Republicans said they were opposed to financial reparations, while roughly a third of Democrats supported reparations.

Only one in 10 white respondents supported the idea, compared to roughly half of black respondent.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has said he is in support of exploring the feasibility of offering financial reparations to both black and Native Americans, Newsweek reported.

“If, in fact, there are ways to get direct payments for reparations, I want to see it,” Biden said earlier this month during a virtual conversation with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Pressley was floated as a potential Biden running mate last week by Vanity Fair.

“I’m just following the work and wherever the work takes me. I wasn’t planning to run for City Council. I wasn’t planning to run for Congress. I’m just following the work. So wherever the work takes me, that’s where I’m going,” she told the outlet.

Yeah, Ms. Pressley, and what about all the Black babies who have been robbed of a LIFE!! Go sit in an abortion clinic and watch all those little human beings being murdered by the hundreds of thousands, and then let's talk about who owes who what!

HOW MANY BLACK CHILDREN HAVE BEEN ROBBED OF A FAMILY??

Yes, non-Black women have abortions, too, but not nearly as many as Black women. The abortion rate for black women is almost five times that for non-Black women. Wouldn't that equal about as many slaves there were??? I really wish she would answer that question for me...

If we cough up money for these asses, in a few years they will demand more. It will never end. I say, let's counter offer. A one time only one way ticket for every black man, woman, child and this is inclusive for everyone who is even .01 percent black who is unhappy, to any country that will take them. No return visa will be considered. Clean out the jails and send them too! If we have more funds, open up the deal to every muslin, atheist, brown or yellow skinned or white and all malcontent trouble makers. Give them 6 months to decide and prepare for departure and relinquish citizenship as an American citizen. For those who stay, make sure they realize that all special treatment will stop and they will be like every other US citizen, no better or worse! No more bitching about slavery, monuments, flags or war of aggression. Let us go deeper in debt if necessary, but let's end this crap now.

Totally agree.

I have been saying that for years. All we owe them is a return to the country of their choice in sub Sahara Africa. Currently, July 15, $927, one way, Miami to Lagos. Just turn in your passport as you leave. Get DNA taken because you will never be allowed back even to visit. Give up your citizenship, in writing and signed by a Judge. They have been offered an education far better then they would have received in Africa so they would be ahead of the game. If they didn't take advantage of that offer for an education, that was their fault and probably why they can't measure up in America.

They need to keep in mind that it was mostly their own 'brothas' that captured and turned their ancestors into slaves, not white men. It was hundreds of thousands of white men who died fighting for their freedom. Are they going to pay the descendent's and families of those men for their sacrifice? And one other thing, did they ever consider that they owe their very existence to the fact that their ancestors were slaves. This created the chain of ancestors that provided the very life they have and personal DNA.

I know, that sucks. There are no guarantees in life. But America has provided more opportunities then they could get just about anywhere else in the world. If their parents didn't help them and guide them along the way, or if they didn't take advantage of the opportunities, that is not the white mans fault.

Frankly, they were not slaves and as citizens of America, they should thank the rest of us for the life they have, and the better life they could have with good honest work, and cleaning up their own areas of America, and the rampant crimes that make their lives sometimes a bit of hell. We aren't doing all of that robbing and killing and raping. Their 'brothas' are. Help the police find them and the police might just stop looking upon blacks as potential death threats to them and the good blacks they are trying to help.

Most of America has no trouble welcoming in good families, black or white or whatever into their neighborhood as good neighbors. Just be that and watch the distrust from so many fade away in the breeze as other new races and cultures have done. We welcome those that want to fit in and blend in. Just do it. But you have to do it yourself.

The first steps include working with the Police to develop trust by helping them rid your neighborhoods of crime and criminals. Get your kids out of gangs. Fathers and Mothers, form a tight good firm family. Get any job you can and start to work your way up like others had to do. Push your kids into higher education. And responsibility.

But meanwhile, can those attempts at reparations and STFU.

Logically Right

IMHO she is just another dumb feckless c**t and no "whitey" owes her or any other black a damn thing! Slavery was a horrible thing, but two things I know for sure and certain - I have never owned a slave and no black now in this country has ever been a slave. If you compair the plight of blacks in this country to the condition of blacks around the world, the blacks here are in much better condition. Lastly, look at their black ancestors who still live in Africa - mud huts and tribalism. Naa, sorry, ain't buyin it. Blacks have been mistreated in the past, and some are being mistreated today, but not nearly all of them and not one of them is owed any sort of reparation.

“I’m just following the work and wherever the work takes me. I wasn’t planning to run for City Council. I wasn’t planning to run for Congress. I’m just following the work. So wherever the work takes me, that’s where I’m going,” she told the outlet.

Congresswoman Makes Reparations Demand on the Hous... (show quote)

Tell the idiot to take her demand to her African state who sold her, not her, but her but past generations to begin with. Not our problem, not our burden, we had nothing to do with slavery...

Get over the entitlement and actually work to achieve something for themself would be much more practical...
