Camel has been a band since '73!

Andrew Lattimer, the guitarist is a frelling genius and plays everything. In fact, everyone in the band is a multi-instrumentalist...probably even the drummer.

Nice. My guess (as to why many missed them) is they do mostly instrumentals. Not commercial enough - just making music because they have to.

Songs are too long.

My favorite band is Dream Theater. They've been around about 35 years and had one song make it to the radio about 25 years ago! It was a bit over 8 minutes. Some of their songs are 45 minutes long in 7 movements.
James LaBrie, the singer takes a break when they do their thing instumentally. 😎

Pull Me Under. You have to see these guys live...they do lots of side projects with people like Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Dave LaRue...............................

Dream Theater - Pull Me Under (Live in Tokyo)

This is the song that made me a fan. The drummer is who caught my attention initially. I thought, This dude jams!

Saw 'em at the Warfield on their 20th anniversary tour...about 11 years after this vid.

They're very good, but I think my mood today prevented me from really being wow'd. The fans in Tokyo sure seemed to know and like them. Gotta give you cred brother - you've tuned me into a lot of really good music. Much appreciated.

I love music...no doubt. And glad to share.

They have a devoted following. There was a significant sampling of American diversity at the Warfield when I saw them.

Good music doesn't exclude anyone from appreciating it. Depending on my mood I enjoy (probably in this order) classic rock, metal, classical, Jazz, C&W, R&B, some rap, hell - even disco (but you've gotta catch me on that rare night, lol). And I must admit that following your lead, I've even discovered more music by going down the rabbit hole of "recommended links" after the video you pointed me to finished. For all those people who think mankind is a virus and deserves to be eradicated, all I can say is you must hate music because if that was the ONLY thing creative we did - I don't think God wasted his time and talent putting us here.
