And we're going to kick your ass again this year. You must like getting an ass kicking,
judging from the new field of dreamers.

People now marvel how it came to pass that Mr. Lincoln should have been selected as the representative man of any party. His weak, wishy-washy, namby-pamby efforts, imbecile in matter, disgusting in manner, have made us the laughing stock of the whole world. The European powers will despise us because we have no better material out of which to make a President. The truth is, Lincoln is only a moderate lawyer and in the larger cities of the Union could pass for no more than a facetious pettifogger."

The author of that "insightful" article was not alone: Vanity Fair, "By the advice of weak men, who should straddle through life in petticoats instead of disgracing such manly garments as pantaloons and coats, the President-elect disguises himself after the manner of heroes in two-shilling novels, and rides secretly, in the deep night, from Harrisburg to Washington." The Brooklyn Eagle, in a column titled "Mr. Lincoln's Flight by Moonlight Alone," suggested the president deserved "the deepest disgrace that the crushing indignation of a whole people can inflict." The New York Tribune joked darkly, "Mr. Lincoln may live a hundred years without having so good a chance to die."

So, how popular was he? Lincoln won the 1860 election in November with 39.8 percent of the popular vote. This absurdly low total was partly due to the fact that four candidates were on the ballot, but it remains the poorest showing by any winning presidential candidate in American history.

At the time he was sworn in, Lincoln's "approval rating" can be estimated by examining wintertime Republican losses in local elections in Brooklyn, Cincinnati, Cleveland and St. Louis, and state elections in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island; by the observations of Henry Adams (of the presidential Adams) that "not a third of the House" supported him; and by the published reckoning of the New York Herald that only 1 million of the 4.7 million who voted in November were still with him. All these indications put his support in the nation at about 25 percent — roughly equivalent to the lowest approval ratings recorded by modern-day polling.

To the opinion makers in the cities of the East, he was a weakling, inadequate to the needs of the democracy. To the hostile masses in the South, he was an interloper, a Caesar who represented a deadly threat to the young republic. To millions on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line, he was not a statesman but merely a standard bearer for a vast, corrupt political system.

Truth be known, Lincoln was not a great, or even a "good" president.

So, tell me again how our President lied.

You are much too kind!! In my 70 years I made a discovery, people pay attention to things where they have interest. I like history and religion, so I spend time reading about those subjects. I know that you have a greater knowledge on current events, and I suspect science and math. Don't sell yourself short.

Actually no. Although President Trump is a mortal with flaws, there is no doubt that he works hard for all US citizens, has kept (as many as the House will allow) his promises. And this has been proven to be utterly false time and time again. It is time for you to get a little more creative in your postings or move along to some grade school to where you might be able to persuade a few Special Ed students to fall for your malarkey.

Spoken like a true southerner. And I have to say, given our war with the south, who praytell was down there giving the polls! And yes, he was a weakling who kicked your sorry southern ass. In listening to your account I would say that that tender little ass of yours is still stinging a little bit.

But you do know that history is written by the winners, not the losers, which is why your man is going to go down as one of the worst presidents in history of our glorious country. As for the House, keeping him down, there are hundreds of bills sitting on McConnell's desk at this very moment. If anyone is keeping him down it would be his own man in the senate who won't even put through a bi-partisan bill on the price of drugs which Donald, the self-proclaimed King of all the America's, has said loud and clear that he would sign if it were sitting on his desk.

Your man is going to go down as the worst president in history because ours is a country--for all its faults-- WILL NO LET EVIL WIN! I mean look at our history. When southern conservatism rose up in all it's bigotted glory proclaiming that theirs was the right to own another man because, well, their entire worthless slave driven economy was built around it. Well, they were smashed and burnt to the ground!

And when your EVIL southern bigoted glory once again rose up in the form of Jim Crow and the KKK the good in this country once again rose up, and this time through laws, put your EVIL southern asses in the dust bin of history-- where it most deservedly belongs! Be it here in our own country or anywhere else in the world we have never let the fascist worst side of Conservatism win which is why the winners, who once again will be writing history, will proclaim your King Donald as the sorriest loser of all time.

And remember, History will write that you Conservatives WOULD NOT ALLOW any new evidence, or anyone else to speak, at King Donald's impeachment, which is the only reason that King Donald will have been around this long. Our country is built around the rule of law--a rule of law that protects right against wrong. Do you honestly think that your party and your King, which are now blatantly violating the rule of law will go down anywhere but in the worst possible light that can be written?

You Conservatives have trashed the most important part of our constitution and all for some petty two-bit worthless POS who dares to think he is KING! If out great General Washington wouldn't take such a position do you think History will speak well of someone who does? For all the brilliance of that grey matter in your head, there is something in you that skips over the most obvious and allows you to cling to the most grotesquely obscure...YOUR King Donald will be thought great by those who write only about Truth?!?! Methinks, your Conservatism, and Fox News, has rendered that a complete and total joke!

Yeah but a lot of you that voted for Hillary died years ago. If they didn't count the dead and illegals, Trump would have won the popular vote. Oh, by the way, Did you know Trump won the Election, Hillary lost. Talk about corrupt. That's the reason Hillary lost. People were beginning to realize that the Democrats were running the most corrupt politician in the country.

So how are ya gonna explain the 2020 election night blowout which promises to make election night 2016 look like just another sleepy news cycle?
Accusing 62.8 million Trump voters in 2016, of being cult members is a stretch. I myself simply voted against Hillary, as a known quantity, but not really supporting him because I knew nothing about him.
But with his track record, I've become a wildly enthusiastic Trump supporter. And I'm sure there are tens of millions more people like me.
I think you're going to remain in denial for a long time to come. You could always come over to the light. On second thought nah, it's too big a leap for you. Stay wallowing in your delusions.

Excuse my interruption but you are crediting Republicans with actions and attitudes committed by Democrats - not that it matter a whit to Progressive convoluted thinking. Now drop your load, do your little dance, sing your little song and retell the lie that the KKK, lynchings, Jim Crow etc., were not acts of the Democratic Party, neither was their opposition to Civil Rights Legislation that only passed because of Republican support.

weird how they always gloss over that little fact...that was all his team doing that. I also love how they say the KKK is now a member of our party........we can accept that, so long as they can accept the fact the KKK does not do that crap on our watch, but had a good 100 yr run on their watch

Undoubtedly going down as a complete fraud and worst President our great country has experienced and hopefully will ever experience.

while your lyen media doesn’t show the mass number of people at rallies it still gets out~~

And did you see his 86% rating for New Hampshire??

Trump, on the other hand, piled up an impressive win on the Republican side, crushing former Massachusetts governor Bill Weld by an 86-to-9 margin. According to Kyle Kondik of Sabato’s Crystal Ball, that is a larger share of the vote than Bill Clinton, George W. Bush or Barack Obama received when they ran for reelection and is only slightly less than Ronald Reagan got in 1984. There is no serious GOP opposition to Trump, and presidents with no internal dissent historically tend to win reelection. <snip>
