It would really be great if people took the time to find out how things do work before making uninformed comments.

This is now the trial, not before, before was the investigation. Presently, each side should be able to call anyone they choose and the people need to be forced to testify and sworn in, to tell the truth, or be charged with perjury, that's how it's supposed to work.

Where does it say that?

At the federal level, the impeachment process is a three-step procedure.
First, the Congress investigates. ...
Second, the House of Representatives must pass, by a simple majority of those present and voting, articles of impeachment, which constitute the formal allegation or allegations. ...
Third, the Senate tries the accused.

U.S. Constitution, Article II, section 4
Johnson became the first president impeached by the House, but he was later acquitted by the Senate by one vote. The Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power to impeach an official, and it makes the Senate the sole court for impeachment trials.

Section 4 continued: Impeachment
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. The Constitution also allows for involuntary removal from office.

The Senate becomes jury and judge, except in the case of presidential impeachment trials when the chief justice of the United States presides. The Constitution requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate to convict, and the penalty for an impeached official is removal from office.

I know what the constitution says, but it does not dictate how the Senate must conduct the trial. It is done according to the rules it passes and it has the sole discretion as to how to do it.

The Senators should make their decision based on the articles of impeachment and the evidence the House Democrats used to pass them. It is not up to the Senate to help the House prove its case. The House must prove Trump guilty. It is not up to Trump or the Senate to prove him innocent. If the House cannot prove its case now without additional witnesses then it proves the impeachment was a farce. Of course, Democrats idea of fairness is that everything must be done their way.

Shut up and call all the witnesses to the stand. Get the truth out for all to see. That is the way it works for every other American citizen that has to stand trial.

You are absolutely right, in as far as you went.

Actually, Liberty, those who now loosely call themselves Democrats long ago forewent any concept of "fairness," just as they foresook any concept of right and wrong or of good and evil.

They are totally about the acquisition of power and control, nothing more.

They single mindedly want to totally destroy President Trump, just as they want to destroy the Republican party.

Their world is totally about them, not the Republic, not the nation, not its citizens, only themselves!

The Republicans need to recognize this to be able to defend and preserve the concept of law and justice within this nation's government; they must become more aggressive in defending themselves, and by extension, their constituents, and immediately, they must defend their duly elected president.

Have you caught Hannity lately? Is that the same point he is trying to make explicitly, LT?

I am all for the Senate to use witnesses to get out the truth.
Should be real damaging to the Democrat Party.
Most Americans pay little attention.
AND
the MSM keeps them in the dark.

In a fair trial both the prosecution and defense call witnesses who give testimony and are cross examined. McConnell is setting up a mockery at the bequest of the crooked Pumpkinfuhrer.

That was supposed to be done in the House but the defense wasn't allowed to call witnesses nor cross the witnesses the prosecution presented. Get your poop straight. Mike

By your own words, "The Senate becomes jury and judge". Juries and Judges DO NOT try cases. Prosecutors and Defense Lawyers try cases, juries determine innocence or guilt, Judges determine penalties. Mike
