=============
Catholic priests are not allowed to get married. I think the doctrine came from the early tradition when the Apostles focus is to Christ alone. And that tradition has been carried forward since Jesus said, to Peter, upon this rock I will built my Church.
Matthew 16:17-19
17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock[a] I will build my church, and the gates of hell[b] shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed[c] in heaven.
These Word of God was carried to the Vatican by the Sacred Tradition and Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

There will be a cannon law broken. And if priests are allowed to marry, I think a Vatican council must change the cannon law. That would be a very big change.
And why women are not allowed as priests? No women are allowed because all the 12 Apostles were male. It is also required in the 7th Sacrament of the Holy Orders.

To be a priest is indeed a lifetime self-sacrifice for the service of God. But I think psychologically, it is hurting the priests medical/physical and psychological needs.

Don't forget that there are huge numbers of ministers, rabbis teachers and counselors who have been guilty of molestation and sexual abuse.

I thought I addressed that issue. 😢

A better question is why are there Catholic priests??

Funny and true, the Gospels speak out against any priesthood. Think of all the children who would have been spared irreparable from sexual abuse if Catholics read the Bible.

I could care less, really. It just seems an odd thing to me but what do I know? I'm just a cave man!

I find religions across the globe to be odd and so at odd's with each other. The more I learned about the one I was raised in, the less I bought into the theology.

The more interesting aspect of religions is how they have evolved from very similar roots and histories. Islam and Christianity share historical roots but are now wildly divergent. They'd be a lot better off if they just practiced the parts where they believe we should all treat each other with the respect we would like to have shown to us.

Actually, it was under an order by a Pope Urban in the thirteenth century.

The celibacy issue has never been proved to be related to abuse.

Spare us please your sanctimonious statements such as "Think of all the children who would have been spared irreparable from sexual abuse if Catholics read the Bible." Sexual abuse has been a problem with people in authority since time immemorial. Rabbis, ministers, teachers, counselors, lawyers, corporate executives, etc. have done it for centuries. I don't think Harvey Weinstein is Catholic nor was Jeffrey Epstein.

Sometimes, this is one of them, your ignorant opinion astounds me!

The Gospels do not speak out against clergy, or a hierarchy.

Sexual abuse is found today anyplace adults interact with children not just the Catholic Church. I ask you to consider and explain how you believe America became over sexualized and considers sex the highest goal of human activity? We can find approvals and sanctions for any type of sexual act today including child molestation and child porn. My personal opinion is that if you can justify dehumanizing and killing 60 million unborn children, sexual abuse is mild in comparison. All is wrong! All is evil. I'm going one step further - I lay the enormity of the sexual moral dissertation in America today on the back of the Progressive agenda and philosophy. You folks have crafted many laws and opinions allowing what is morally wrong in human sexuality. Are you really that surprised it entered even into our churches? Remember, that which is not proscribed is prescribed!

Finally, liturgical churches present much more of the scriptures to their congregation than non-liturgical. An OT reading, psalms, Epistle, Gospel, and normally a homily on the Gospel.

During the Middle Ages, about the 1135-1174, I recalled reading a book "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet, a historical novel/ fiction book. The years of building the Gothic Cathedrals.

During that time, rich families donate lots of their lands to the Catholic Church for their sons to be part of the Catholic clergy.

Being a priest at that time is a very highly esteemed position since the Catholic Church had lots of power and authority derived from the Pope. Kings of England could not fully function without being blessed by the Pope.

But by the Middle Ages, many priests treated their calling as a "family business," giving preference to their sons for highly respected positions and trying to edge out the competition to protect their legacy. Because of this practice, the Church formally banned the practice of priests marrying about 1,000 years ago.

From a spiritual perspective, priests are called to act as another Christ, which includes his celibate lifestyle.
There are still a few married Catholic priests: Episcopal and Lutheran priests who were married and then converted to Roman Catholicism can be ordained, and men in the Eastern Rites, such as the Ukrainian Church, can marry before becoming ordained.

For spiritual perspectives priests often serve thousands of parishioners, and are the only ones who can offer the sacrament of mass, where the bread and wine are thought to become the body and blood of Christ.

Having a family could take away the time and energy priests now focus on the spiritual needs of their flock.

But I think in my opinion, priests should be allowed to marry. For the sake of their psychological needs, their physical and mental health.

rumi,

Which Bible? The Protestant Bible(s) or the Catholic Bible? They are 2 slightly different bibles. (I’m not referencing the different versions of the Protestant Bible.). The Catholic Bible contains the Apocrypha while the Protestant Bibles don’t.

You need to be more knowledgeable about your subject matter before you spout off on a particular topic. As such, I’ll let you research the Apocrypha and what it contains.

Yes, that they aren't allowed to is why so many perverts have taken over their ranks.

Is that why there are no married perverts?
