Mulvaney pushed NOAA to disavow forecasters who contradicted Trump on Alabama: report

Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney instructed Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to have the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) support President Trump's comments on the threat of Hurricane Dorian to Alabama and contradict the National Weather Service (NWS), according to The New York Times.

The Times, citing three unidentified sources, reported that after the directive came down from Mulvaney, Ross called acting NOAA Administrator Neil Jacobs to tell him to ensure the agency backed Trump.

When Jacobs objected, he was told the NOAA's political appointees would be fired if it was not carried out, according to the newspaper.

Looks like you and tNotMyPrez have pretty bad cases of TDS. I'm surprised Kevyn, kemmer, and woodglue haven't weighed in too. It's probably because it's so insignificant as to not even merit a response.
"Sharpie-gate"! Now we even have a name for Trump's prediction of Hurricane Dorion's path.
Except what I heard is that even the Alabama National Guard had geared up to prepare for being hit by Dorian, too. So are the leaders of the Alabama National Guard mentally incompetent, cuckoo or just responsible public servants preparing for possible hurricane paths?

The point that people are missing is that although doctoring the map with a sharpie is childish and asinine that wasn’t the problem. Federal organizations like NOAA and the weather service are non political organizations that Americans rely on for accurate information. This administration is hiding information from the public collected by these agencies and deliberately acting to destroy the faith people have in these organizations. In some instances this is done to hide information about environmental degradation caused by industry so the public will not demand changes that could cost industry money. In other instances it serves a purely political purpose when statistics and research provide information that does not support administration policy. In this instance it was done to save the Presidents frail ego from admitting he was in error when he said a storm threatened an area it was not going to hit. This not the sharpie use is a big deal.
