Make voting day a federal holiday and pay people a hundred bucks to show up at the polls.

You commies are always looking to scam the taxpayers out of money. Free day off with pay and a bribe of $100 also. You are disgusting.

In terms of participation, the United States ranks 122 worldwide.

1) Should we try to change it?
No

2) Initially, we were an agrarian society that had to travel to the county seat to vote and for religious reasons couldn't travel on Sunday. That isn't the case today so wouldn't voting on Saturday be better as it would make it easier to participate?
Make it Friday and Saturday

3) Should states be required to open more polls in order to shorten the waiting time?
Election boards are supposed to monitor wait times and respond by reducing lines and time, red states aggressively make lines and time in line longer by reducing hours, polling stations, and machines

4) Should we make voting mandatory?
No, people too ignorant and apathetic to vote are idiots anyway.

You mean a poll tax. They tried that and I am pretty sure it is unconstitutional. How about we just move voting to the first Saturday of November and increase the number of polls in each state.

There are states that allocate polling stations according to previous lines and expected voter numbers, they do not have the newsworthy long lines. The problems we hear about are states where high population centers are having hours, stations, and machine numbers cut with an intention to increase lines and wait times. It isn't that hard to properly allocate to improve lines and wait times if an election board wants to.

Early ballots/mail in ballots solve these issues. But I agree that voting on Saturday would be good.

But no voting shouldn't be mandatory! In fact, I kinda like the Heinlein idea of having to first serve you country or community in some capacity to become an American citizen instead of American resident and get the franchise. Thus proving you actually care about your country or fellow citizen. But that would be unconstitutional.
