Obama's administration defunded much federal training, especially for "welfare-to-work" recipients. Without the federal money, most state welfare-to-work programs were shut down. Welfare rolls turned up sharply after declining throughout the Clinton and Bush years.

Coal mining is growing again in my home town. After sitting idle through the late Obama years, the local coal tipple is running 24/7 filling train cars with coal. Much of it is headed to ships going to China. It's a shame that brain-dead alarmists and the Obama administration forced so many coal-fired utility plants to close. Those that were dismantled are not easily reopened.

Did you ever hear of the great recession?

Did you know the western world economy collapsed while Bush was in office and was the worse recession if 70 years?

Amazing what was required to get us out of that dilema, but Obama and the US led the world in that difficult recovery.. great good fortune that the nation was blessed to have Obama do the job.. wonderful.

Only an accident of birth put either of us in America... I did some positive things to be proud of..

Obama prolonged the recession because he is an economic know nothing. Other Presidents have piloted the Us of A through hard times and did not have an 8 year long recession as Obama did. Well there was FDR and the Great Depression, and he was a Democrat.

First there was Reagan. Ronnie Raygun had two problems, recession and severe inflation. By the beginning of Reagan's third year the economy was in recovery. By the end of his fourth year inflation was tamed and the economy was roaring.

But lets us go back to the severe recession of 1920-21. Nobody remembers it. Well President Harding presided over that and it was over in about a year and a half. He did it by doing the opposite of what your Village Idiot Obama did.

Harding did get the economy going while in office: a perfect set up for his successor, Hoover. Hoover, on the other hand was the unfortunate office holder who paid dearly for the send off into the Great depression! Obama did the opposite: he turned a failing Bush economy into a slow but recovering situation. Trump inherited from Obama an economy on the mend... for which Trump took all the credit!

Coolidge did not think much of Hoover. He foresaw problems at the end of his second term and did not think Hoover was the man to handle them. Hoover, while a Republican was like McNamara in the Vietnam War. A Whiz Kid who had all of these scientific theories about how government could manage it's way out of a recession, and like McNamara with the Vietnam War, everything he did was wrong. Hoover only made things worse and paved the way for FDR. FDR was no smarter economically, but he was politically. He flimflammed the American Public into thinking his policies were working. Eventually WW2 bailed him out and he looked like a genius.

The same thing, Reagan got a crap economy from Jimmy Carter, worked hard to fix it and by the time is was ripping Bubba Clinton got all the credit. The voters, for the most part, are obvious to the whole thing.

Now that is amazingly funny. Carter was like Herbert Hoover. A technician. Like Hoover he was full of mathematically great formulas and theories that worked on paper and not in the real World.

Such people are great at running Departments and Bureaus, but as Chief Executives they are disasters. Who was Obama's buddy that did such a horrible job at GE ? Oh Yea, Jeff Immelt. In fact, the parallels between Immelt and Herbert Hoover are scary.
