The choice is yours but when an OS and/or any other software on the system goes out of support it becomes more vulnerable to malware and intrusion.

Have tried Mozilla don't like it. Have never use anything else but always need to reload it every time Windows needs to updated. Anything you get is a learning curve. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/list-of-25-alternative-browsers-for-windows

Have they discontinued support for Windows 7/8? I was assuming he may have been running under XP/Vista, which is definitely out of support.

I've got a killer internet security program running. Something unwanted comes in, this thing lights up the screen, sounds an audio alarm, and either scrambles the virus's brains and flushes it or gives me some options. I actually think this firewall would stop a nuclear blast. Metaphorically speaking.

I, like Ranger7374, use Vivaldi, quite snappy and capable. Additionally, unaware of any issues due to OS updates with Vivaldi.

Supposedly, not until January 2020. then the AUTOMATIC Updates will not be available but you can most likely still get them on the net... they said that with XP also but I managed to run it another 5 years before switching to Win 7 Pro.. and I reckon it will be the same for that as far as updates..

This is much like the Y2K issue.. they scared everyone into gettin a new pc.. they alledged that the pc at 12:59 am would basically implode.. is the Typical scare!! LMAO..I guess they didn't figure that there are those that are actually smarter than they are.. and MY IQ is about 146 . shame on them for ASS u Ming!!.. tsk tsk!!.

With even the best firewall, if someone finds an open port in use, they can piggyback in on it and the firewall may not notice the intrusion. With out of support software, it doesn't get updated so any vulnerabilities unpatched at time of falling out of support never gets patched and can be exploited. The longer it remains out of support, the more time more people have to discover those vulnerabilities. Keeping your system secure is most crucial when running Windows, the most popular OS, as that is the primary target of those looking to harm the largest number of systems they can with the least effort. I don't run Windows and the obscurity of my choice of OS offers me some additional security as does some of my software choices and keeping that software updated.

Thank you for the post.. I have been using Iobit for at least 10 years they have never done this to me before.. nah this had to do with a mozilla update pure n simple.. I just need to go into the tools and set it up to download updates but let ME install them when I am ready.. I use a software program to DJ, called SAM Broadcaster, and when ever windows does an update it messes with all my sound settings in windows which effect my Sam's programing as well.. I Literally have to go into window's settings to re adjust my sound profile!.. which is honestly more important to me than windows settings or mozilla for that matter, I honestly only REALLY care about my SAM!.. It is my livelyhood!...

Try scanning with Kaspershy and see what it finds. Have used it 14 years. Use to use Iobit until Kaspersky found several things Iobit missed. https://free.kaspersky.com/endoflife

You may also want to check out the Brave browser. Its fast. I find its better than Vivaldi though both get the job done.

https://brave.com/

You can also block a lot of ads, banners and other things by modifying the Windoze hosts file. Read up on it first though if you're not sure about what you're doing.

Chrome works well if you have the memory for it (16MB) and you have nothing against Google/Android. If you use any of the Google services is should fit the bill. Before you switch clean things up like delete temporary files, junk only slows thing down.
