Well, do you know what socialism is? I mean really: I’m interested in hearing what you fear or like about it. Public Schools are good, right? Public Works- road maintenance, parks, electric. And public service like police and fire, courts, tax assessors- all of it to support We The People. And the places that privatized public services screwed us. The Prison system is the perfect example.
But we *are* a socialist country. The root word, social, refers to Society. We are tribal people. We do not do well on our own- isolated. And the US hasn’t fought an honest war since 1945. I have so many younger friends who enlisted and served tour after tour in Afghanistan and Iraq. Some died there, others died after they returned. What does the Middle East War (2003 -present) have to do with our way of life? What were my friends fighting for?
I seriously welcome the opportunity to learn from you; to share our ideas.
Let’s start with “socialist.” For 17 of my 32 years working I taught public school. I served the public. I’ve been in the trenches of service to my country. Instead of a rifle I carried a baton, lesson plans, and an iPod. But service just the same.
Are services that benefit the whole society a bad thing or a good thing and how are we defining “social”?

Socialism has become a four letter word, it's actual definition skewed for partisan purposes. Many equate socialism with communism, another four letter word. Most Americans can't even explain what kind of Governmental system they live under in their own country, but have strong opinions about other countries systems. How is that possible, that Americans know more about someone else's form of government than they do their own? The simple answer...........propaganda.

There has never been, nor is there now, a country that practices true communism. Every "communist" country uses half of the system "you own nothing, the State owns all" to control the masses, and enrich the elite. In socialist countries, the government is hired to manage available resources, to ensure that they are distributed evenly and fairly to all citizens.................but only for those things that are common to all. Education, internal and external security, healthcare, public health, safety, to name a few of those things that are "common" to all.

There are many who fear the United States becoming a "socialist" country, failing to comprehend that it already is. Federal money belongs to all citizens, a resource to be distributed equally and fairly, few would disagree with that assessment - yet - we all know that it is NOT distributed equally and fairly, but done in a manner more akin to - communism. Sates receive federal money for education, healthcare, highways, internal security and many other things that are "common" to all, as well as using public resources for external security, public health, safety, etc.....................so how is that different from, let's say Denmark or Sweden? It isn't.

Socialism is a necessary step to Communism. Federal Government has done nothing for schools. One of the goals of Communism is to take over the schools using design and the ignorance of teachers. It should have been turned over to the states as our founders intended it to be. These people can't run their mouth or budget so they sure can't run the education The Federal Reserve banksters donate out of their cold stone hearts our text books and they also decide who wrights them. So if I had kids in school I sure the Hell be reading them. Except democRats that are clueless on the documents that founded our nation and more than likely can't read. above a three letter word.

If YOU had researched any history, you'd have had a better response.

If our capitalist system is so screwed up,
how did we become the great country that we are and why do so many people want to come here? I am so sick and tired of people putting down our country.

===============
There is no socialist country in the world that ever improved the lives of the people. All the people suffer at the end.

Yet the Socialist democrats in our country could not appreciate the wonders and beauty of freedom in capitalism. Its the freedom and ingenuities that we have unlimited bounds/potentials to think, create, invent, grow, produce, work.

Socialism is a form of modern slavery where the socialist leader and the cronies gain everything. It lures people at the start for their betterment.
then gradually consumes their humanity.

Anybody who think socialism is compassion must be so stupid.Because it is the opposite of the facts. Soros is a proponent of socialism driving people into his slaves. He pretends to be a philanthropist but actually supporting the people into slavery and exhaustion of all the substance until all is gone and dead.

Socialism is the heart of communism.

This form of government does not endure the test of time.

In Russia it lasted for 74 yrs.

In N.Korea it has 61 yrs under its belt.

In Cuba it lasted for 54 yrs.

Those are the top 3 for longevity.

We, the United States have been here for 236 years.

You are a former teacher, did you ever teach math?

Two very intelligent posts, then the crazies come out. Try to understand that we have always shared resources for the good of all of society. There is no pure system of government, all are hybrids.
