GET A RECEIPT AND CHECK IT BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE

A LOT OF SHOPS NOW ASK IF YOU NEED A RECEIPT-otherwise you don’t get one.

LEAVES IT WIDE OPEN DOESN’T IT ! (I’ve noticed this lately)
Keep the Receipt.

This is worth reading if shopping at stores with a credit card....
They do not automatically hand you a receipt anymore if the sale is under $30.
You must ask for it...

CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS BEFORE LEAVING THE CHECK-OUT

An associate bought a heap of stuff the other day while on holiday (over $450), & when he glanced at his receipt as the cashier was handing him the bags, he saw cash out of $20.

He told her he didn't request any cash and to delete it. She said he'd have to take the $20 because she couldn't delete it.

He told her to call a supervisor. Supervisor came and said he'd have to take it. He said NO Bloody way!

Because taking the $20 would be a cash advance against his Credit Card and he wasn't paying interest on a cash advance!!!!!

If they couldn't delete it then they would have to delete the whole order.

So the supervisor had the cashier delete the whole order and re-scan everything!

The second time he looked at the electronic pad before he pinned in his number and again cash-back of $20 popped up.

At that point he told the cashier and she deleted it. The total then came out right. The cashier said that the Electronic Pad must be defective. Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad was defective because she NEVER offered him any cash after either of the transactions.

Can you imagine how many people went through before him and by the end of her shift how much money she pocketed?

His wife went into a Cole's Warehouse last week.
She had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried her along and didn't give her a receipt.

She asked the cashier for the receipt and the cashier seemed annoyed but gave it to her.

She didn't look at her receipt until later that night when back at their Hotel. The receipt showed that she had asked for $20 cash. SHE DID NOT ASK FOR ANY CASH, NOR WAS SHE GIVEN IT!

So she called Cole's who investigated but could not see that the cashier pocketed the money.

They then spoke with a friend who works for one of the banks; they told them that this was a new scam that was bound to escalate.

The cashier will key in that you asked for cash and then hand it to one of her friends when they next come through the check-out queue.

This is NOT limited to Cole's; they are just one of the largest retailers to have the most incidents.

I wonder how many "seniors" have been, or will be,"stung" by this one?????

To make matters worse ... THIS SCAM CAN BE DONE ANYWHERE, AT ANY RETAIL OR WHOLESALE LOCATION!!!

IT COULD HAPPEN ANYWHERE. CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE LEAVING THE CHECK-OUT.........

...CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!!!!!

I also advise check the receipt before leaving the counter. I caught at Macys having a 50% discount tag price on an item for sale.

When scanned by the cashier, no discount was taken.
I reviewed receipt before leaving. So, the Cashier had to repeat the scan, and 50% came out.

Here are other tricks merchants do. They advertise 75% discount on merchandise. But the discount ads are deceptive. What they do is raise the price of the item to add 75%. Then from that amount, they display a for sale at 75% discount.

I like the self-checkout! I always have a total amount calculated in my head before I check-out. Considering the poor math skill so many people have and that they can't do the math, if you fall into this category, you should always carry a pocket calculator. Trust, but verify! Good warning. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Excellent advice, many thanks. 😁

Another good idea is to keep an eye on a card if you're in a store where the cashier swipes it him(her)self. A security consultant colleague once showed me his collection of card scanning devices: the cashier will have the device under the counter, and when you hand over the credit/debit card, he/she will briefly dip the hand holding it beneath the counter and swipe it or dip it in the scanner. It will read the card, store all the data on it and later the cashier will upload all the collected card data into a computer, then use it to program credit or debit cards corresponding with names on other IDs.

This last trick has been going on forever! However, I have found that at Old Navy, the 50% off sales are the real deal. What yanks my chain is the stores that buy full lots of merchandise dirt cheap with overpriced, pre-printed tags. They can discount 25%, 50% and even 75% off, and still make a tidy profit from merchandise that is often poorly made, probably by children in sweat shops in China, India and Bangladesh. "Hecho en ___________" (fill in the country of origin) is common.
In case you didn't know, "Hecho en" means "made in".

I've found Old Navy to be poor to average quality and they use vanity sizing (everything runs larger so that you think you are a smaller size than you really are). If I bought pants there in my actual size, they would fall down every time I wear them without a good belt. But I get what you're saying, and it is difficult to find American made products except for the "Made in Hawaii" shirts.

On the other hand, farming out this work helps foreign countries raise their standard of living. It worked for Japan and Korea. But using children is unconscionable and too many third world countries allow it. As they become more prosperous these practices do change for the better. But we should not contribute to it.

If I want to shop cheap and get good quality, I go to TJ Maxx. While their inventory changes from day-to-day, whenever I go to one of their stores they always seem to have what I'm looking for. 😁

China products are deceptive. They don't last long.
I still keep many of my classic clothes from the old 80's when I was young and actively working. They were made in the US. My shoes from Italy and US. Fortunately they still fit me. I didn't gain much weight. I am still looking for US made around the mall. No more like that. You'll see the 50% to 75% tag price of items hecho en China. Don't last long.

I haven't bought clothes other than underwear and socks in 40 years. I just now have jeans that are having wear holes that would cost me $50.00 or more at a store. Part of that is I wore a uniform for 25 years. Mike

They have all sorts of stuff, not just clothes, lots of brand names. I've bought a $30.00 mini Totes umbrella there for $7.99, a durable Swiss Gear backpack for $25.00; they buy odd lots in massive quantities, everything from clothes to luggage to kitchen gear, etc, and it just sort of shows up in their stores at really low prices.

I'm not a browser, I actually hate shopping with a passion, so when I go into a store it's always for something specific, but often enough when I go to TJ Maxx, like for boxers or something, I see stuff I was planning on buying someplace else at regular price and pounce on it, brand items that can cost three or four times what Maxx sells them for.
