Social Security and Medicare are earned. They are not free. The people receiving those have worked and contributed to the system for years. The longer they have worked, higher is given for Social Security. For Medicare, and Social Security, you have work at least 40 qrs. (equal to 10 years), and at age 65, you are entitled to Medicare. You must be at least 66 years of age to qualify for Social Security if born 1943 till 1954, or will require longer, till 67 years if born 1960 or later. To retire at 62, you will get 75% of the benefit.

What you are talking about [free believer], is the SSI. SSI called Social Security Income. That benefit is given to the poor Americans who did not work, and are poor, and old. That is what you call benefit. You did not earn that, but freely given to the poor. It is a welfare program. Perhaps that is what you are receiving from the government paid for by the taxpayers.

Social Security and Medicare are socialistic programs in their own right: SSI is yet another, even more socialistic program. The first two require monetary input from beneficiaries but they are government programs to supply a soft landing for those who retire without sufficient savings. I collect the first two because I worked over forty years to qualify for them. Many republicans would like to end both because they are socialistic in nature.

There is obviously a place for socialistic programs like SS/SSI etc.
But there must be a limit, or it fails for all.
What Republican wants to; "Many republicans would like to end both because they are socialistic in nature."

Medicare and Social Security are both in an going programs. President Trump does not plan to end it. GOP's in Congress do not plan to end it.
But they need to have changes on provisions because the funds for SS could not sustain on an on going basis using the present and previous policies.
For SS, in order to continue in a solvent condition, age are planned to extend before retiring. Or compensation reduced, and beneficiaries and dependents' benefits reduced.
For Medicare, the RADICAL DEMS SOCIALIST PROPOSAL requires all to have Medicare even when those beneficiaries did not contribute. Fact is Bernie Sanders want all to have MEDICARE including the 33 million illegal aliens.
The government will take over all the healthcare programs at the cost of $300 billions or more annually. All private providers and insurers will have to close. It will take perhaps months or years waiting for doctor's appointment because of the volume of population crowding the system. Some may die waiting too bad.
Government expansions of services under the demand of Socialism equality for all. People don't need to work, they are freely provided anyways. Where the money is coming from we don't know. Money does not grow on trees.
During the administration of Mr. Obama, funds for SS and Medicare were co-mingled with the General Funds. It was a very wrong accounting process, and a violation of the GASP Standard. (Government Accounting Standard Procedures). and Internal Control procedures.
