"On the heels of NATO's declaration that is was suspending all practical cooperation with Russia (and ordered military planners to draft new measures to strengthen its defenses), Bloomberg reports that the US will be sending a Navy warship back to the Black Sea. Pentagon spokesman Army Colonel Steve Warren told reporters that the ship (as yet unnamed) wil be there to conduct exercises with allies and is a "direct response to the circumstances in Ukraine." and is the first in the Black Sea for 2 weeks.
NATO started the day off aggressively...
Nato said earlier on Tuesday it was suspending all practical cooperation with Russia in protest at its annexation of Crimea, and ordered military planners to draft measures to strengthen its defenses and reassure nervous Eastern European countries.
Which came on the heels of...
Move follows U.S. deployment of F-16 fighters to Poland and F-15 fighters to the Baltic to assist allies with regional air patrols
And now the US steps up the actions (as well as words)
U.S. in next several days will send a Navy warship into the Black Sea to conduct exercises with allies, Pentagon spokesman Army Colonel Steve Warren tells reporters
Warren wouldn’t name the vessel, the first in that body of water since a U.S. vessel departed March 21
Deployment is “direct response to the circumstances in the Ukraine
We can only wonder how long until Russia "test fires" another ICBM?"

A navy ship. Singular, uno, one. Has about as much meaning as the Republicans putting Clarence Thomas on the bench. I believe the word is "token". The U.S., fortunately, does not plan to do battle with Russia, over their untidy divorce with the Ukraine.

Are we trying to start a war with Russia? Do the old men in Washington, really believe this will go unanswered? Obama backs down Putin does not.

If the war mongers want a war with Russia, they can bloody well send their useless children to fight it. Instead of hiding them in the National Guard.

Why can't these idiots accept the fact that the people of Crimea do not wish to be EU slaves? Of all the stupid things this administration has done this is one of the most dangerous.

I really think they have had this planned for quite awhile.

The insane hegemons wont be happy till they have Russia and China surrounded and a nuclear war to do it doesn't matter to them.

Patty, I agree with you about the Crimea. I think, though, you can relax. The photo I saw of the deployed destroyer reminds me of the ready-for-scrap old navy ships that used to be parked in the backwaters of San Francisco Bay. My guess is that ship is probably just a few months away from being made into the 2015 Hyundais and Kias.

Thanks Brian. Do you have an updated news article. The one I have says that the ship is "un named" so far.

I suspect President Obama has no intention of sending the "USS Don Knotts" up against the "RFS Arnold Schwarzenegger".

I sure hope not. That one gun on deck looks a little lonely sitting there.

The 36 ship to ship missiles on the old russkie, gives THAT sheep some wolf's teeth ( pun intended ). At any rate, we're just daring Russia to do something. Since Putin has agreed to diplomacy, we need to step it up a notch in order to get something going. The defense industry is starting to panic, there are no wars on the horizon to replace the one's we're getting out of, I mean, how are those folks going to eat? You know, lobster for lunch in Casa Blanca and steak in Switzerland for dinner, on the same day. We must help them keep up their accustomed lifestyle.
