Why would we bother with such nonsense...
Like holding a Special Olympics for normal people...
This is a case of "if you can't beat them, join them"...

I hate parades. Can’t figure out why anyone but Veterans should have a parade.

I resemble that remark. From time to time, when they are short on marchers, I get drafted to march in a Celtic street parade with what I am told is a real live Irish or Scottish or some kind of Celtic s word. They even pay me to do it by giving me a belt of Scotch. I don't even wear a Kilt, and the people cheer us. I think parades and whiskey go together with cool looking swords.

I like Margaret Cho's take on it all:
"I'm not gay! I'm not straight! I'm a slut!!!!
Where's MY parade!"

Brilliant! Wish I had thought of that.
I understand Boston was threatened with a civil right lawsuit if they failed to comply with this request. Not being totally devoid of any common sense the city saw fit to agree.

Lots of Vets hate parades with a passion. They got enough of marching in the service.

You might have a very valid point there. Wouldn’t blame them.

Good morning, Kyle, my friend,
You are quite right, but I can see where proud republican is coming from. I mean, if we are giving an entire moth to a small group because of their sexual preferences, shouldn't the rest of us get 1 day of recognition?...no parades, publicity, bells, or whistles, just a quiet straight pride day. I'm not saying we should do it, just that's it's not unreasonable.
Thanks for your advice...I'm feeling a bit better this morning.
You friend, David

Holding a Special Olympics for normal people would simply be the Olympics.
But I wouldn't call the people who compete in the Olympics normal. The winner is the best in the world in their particular event.
As for Straight Pride Parades, I'm all for it. If they had one in my community, I'd participate.
My town recently had their gay pride parade which attracted many thousands. They even hoisted the gay rainbow flag up the flagpole at the police dept. So all the community knew the police were on board with the gay movement.
It's a sad day when America celebrates sodomy as just another choice.
