Is Medicare and SS socialism

Can OPP bloggers please give your definition of socialism and where you believe socialism is applied in our government.

Can OPP give the true definition of Capitalism and where Capitalism is applied in our government.

Can OPP bloggers give the definition of Marxism and where Marxism is applied in our Government.

Hopefully will will generate a great debate over these three forms of government. There’s no reason for insults.

If you worked for a living didn't you notice that SS/ Medicare was deducted from your paycheck. That money if it had been properly invested and not wasted by the Government would have an enormous reserve. Recipients of SS/Medicare are being reimbursed for their investment.

Very Simply put: "CAPATALISIM" is the investment of "YOUR"money and hard work with the goal of making a profit without the interference of the Government.
"MARXISIM" The confiscation, redistribution, misappropriation and theft of the benefits from your hard work.

Airforceone...

Yes, Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security is Socialistic... Government Taxes and Borrowing to financially assist people...

In a Capitalist System, property and businesses are owned and controlled by individuals...
In a Socialist System, the state owns and controls the major means of support of the individuals...
My source is: www.investopedia.com...

Marxism is a 19th century means of achieving a Communist System that has never been applied in Our USA, and has never been successfully applied in Any Nation...
My source is my courses in William Paterson College...

There are many in the demoRAT party that are advocating the elimination of private property. Those who
own their home will lose everything. And that is the DemoRAT party of today.

Retired Builder, I think this is a good example of Government 'investment' vs Private investment. I'm now 77 years old. I began working in 1959. From 1970 - '79 I worked for a non-profit and was forced to partake in their retirement plan. In '79 I divorced and my wife insisted I give her my retirement money which was $6K. HOWEVER, the associations $6K remained untouched. Fast forward to 2012 I retired. My SS statement said that I had $64K in my account after 50+ years. One day I get a postcard from the Association's retirement account asking me to contact them. When I did I learned that the $6K sitting for 33 years was now $146K.
AND, there's a $16K death benefit AND when I pass the monthly payment continues to my wife until she passes.

I think one way to help SS stay solvent is to raise the contribution level to 1 million dollars from the current level which I think is around $160K.

Sounds about right however with the current rate of inflation (created by the fed) and the cost of goods, after standard deductions of the average man's/ woman's paycheck there would be little left for them to live on. Most young families today struggle just to make ends meet and there's little hope things will get better for them. Got a friend down the road (he's 86) worked until he was 72 who barley survives on his SS and he would be on the street if his house wasn't paid for, he saves all year to pay his property tax, and luxury items are a thing of the past. His attitude is that if he can't afford it he don't need it - maybe more of that kind of thinking might be in order for Americans.

Thank you 100% correct but is that socialism. I did work for a living I understand I paid into SS and Medicare throughout my working career and while I was supporting the retirees I expect the same from the working people today.

But you did answer SS and Medicare but please read the question on Socialism, Capitalism and Marxism. Each of these three have positives and negatives. What I am trying to point out the fact as to where these three forms of government are already incorporated into the US government.

Thank you for your response and look forward to you expanding on your perceptions.

Can this country survive under a 100% capitalistic form of government.

Now you did not post on socialism??????

But the main objective of Marxism is to discredit capitalism which is not good. But according to Marxism those in power (Known as the upper class control all the resources and oppress the poor, so as to remain in power.

Capitalism where do the funds come from for the capitalist to even begin to invest in. Example the Federal government has many employees, the federal government invests in roads, Bridges, Schools, our military through private contractors (Capitalist) all our first responders, police, teachers, Fireman, DPW employees. Trillions of dollars are invested through federal, State and local taxes all these tax dollars are invested with our capitalist which is a great. But our economy is built on government spending. That’s socialism, that’s the reason why I wanted you to look up the definition of socialism and capitalism and how they work together.

The federal government does not control manufacturing of goods and services.

So please expand on your post because if you understand the complete scope of 100% capitalism and 100% socialism it will give you a better idea of how our government has incorporated the positives of the federal government operates and invest in our capitalist which is a very positive way of governance.

Our founding fathers omitted any reference to socialism in the constitution on purpose but if you read there ideals on capitalism they did not mean the US should promote 100% capitalism but in the constitution they do refer to certain forms of socialism without using the term socialism.

But if you look up the definition you will have a better understanding. Thank you for your post and look forward to you expanding on your perception

Why not give your perceptions as to Socialism versus capitalism. I trying to generate a common sense debate as to how capitalism works and how Socialism supports the capitalist in this country.

Do the Trump agenda of giving a 19% tax cut, create a 25% tariff, and cut SS and Medicare are a solution to that retirees problems.
