Freshman Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas) introduced legislation this week aimed at ending sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts. Earlier this week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement accused officials in Prince Georges County in Maryland for releasing two illegal aliens suspected of murder after ICE had issued a detainer request.

Rep. Gooden's bill would strengthen the authority of ICE detainers. In addition, it would tighten up the definition of a sanctuary city, restrict funding for jurisdictions that meet the definition of a sanctuary city, offer immunity to local officers who carry out an ICE detainer request, and increase penalties for illegal reentry into the United States.

Rep. Gooden told Fox News that funding for local law enforcement that could be cut due to sanctuary policies would not impact essential law enforcement efforts.

“We’re not targeting terrorism preparedness, drug enforcement or other DHS grants unrelated to immigration,” Rep. Gooden said. “This is in no way going to disrupt law enforcement practices that are ongoing as respect to those grants.”

Rep. Gooden's bill is a focused attempt at addressing the issue of sanctuary cities.

"This bill is a common sense approach to addressing the problem, and I'm hopeful that Democrats who support the rule of law and the safety of their constituents would join Rep. Gooden in his effort to prevent the continued release of criminal aliens and to fully allow localities to cooperate with immigration enforcement," NumbersUSA Deputy Director Chris Chmielenski said.

I fully Support Rep. Gooden's Bill to End any and all Sanctuary Hide Outs. I found out 3 days ago, that the State i live in, Washington State, has become a full fledged Sanctuary State and this has me spitting Bullets!!!!!! Now i have to watch my back 24/7 and pray for the safety of my little families and other people who live here as well. Now what do Y'all think of this wonderful Bill that Rep. Gooden has issued for our Countries Safety and Happiness?

Real conservatives will not support it either, they believe in states rights and the right of local people to run their governments as they like.

Unfortunately for us all, I agree with Noraa. But I would be with you. I learned from Judicial Watch a few months ago our governor signed into law a bill prohibiting Sanctuary Cities and our good government went against him. We have an entire county in our state that is sanctuary. Louisiana has several sanctuary cities including the home of the Ragin’ Cajuns. You probably are familiar with this. It is tragic.

Except Holder's Justice Dept Told Border States
They Don't Have Standing To Enforce Federal Immigration Law

Furthermore
Sanctuary Anyplace
Is Already A Violation Of Federal Immigration Law

Border States
Not Only Have Standing To Enforce All Federal Laws
They Have A National Obligation To Protect Our Foreign Borders

Currently, sanctuary cities do not exist in Florida, but the proposed legislation is designed as a preemptive measure to prevent the rise of such locations. The bill, if made into law, would punish cities that adopt sanctuary policies by levying a fine of $5,000 every day that the measure remains in place.

I am a Constitutional Conservative, and as the Laws are currently written, I agree with you... However, this does not mean I do not support Rep Gooden's Bill... I do support it...

But until such a Bill is passed by the House and Senate and signed by the Pres, and becomes the new Law, I do acknowledge that Sanctuary Cities are Lawful...

Not sure about the legality of any sidestepping of a law that is on the books. Kinda like the law against DUI except if caught at 3:22 on Main street doing 41.5 mph on the sidewalk. Don't believe exceptions are valid. let's ask the MA judge who was arrested by letting an illegal escape ICE by letting him leave the courthouse through the back door and involving the court clerk and others.

EN Submarine Qualified... You do understand that I agree that today, and for the foreseeable future, Sanctuary Cities are Legal... And you should also understand that as a Constitutional Conservative, I do standby the Legitimacy of the current Law, but can still support new Law to limit/end Sanctuary Cities... That there is no "sidestepping of a law that is on the books" by myself nor Rep Gooden...
