Not in all instances but would agree with you in most cases. You are more right than wrong.

Hey Morgan,
Hope all is going well and enjoying summer.

This argument made me remember a story in the old Testament when God called for an entire city of people be taken out.
The people were very savage in human sacrifice, sex orgies and just about every other dark thing. They would have destroyed the Hebrews and the off spring once grown would have sought revenge. These were the same Hebrews that escaped over 300 years of slavery and bondage of Egypt.

Since the beginning of recorded history, over 5000 years of history. For every thirteen years of war (on average) there has only been 1 year of peace.
Many of the wars in the last several hundred years have been what I believe to be unjustified attacks with some exceptions, more exceptions in self defense from being attacked.
It would seem mankind as a whole has a blood lust for power, wealth and resources that go beyond rational thought. We are left with determining which wars are justified and why. America has been on different sides of warring to save countries from "evil" dictators, protecting itself from attack or preventing an attack, then the many unjustified political wars that in my opinion was nothing more than mass murder motivated by lust, greed, power. I like or would like to believe America has done more good assisting the weak and helpless countries and peoples.
Did dropping the bomb on Japan cost more lives or save more lives? Considering the torture it cost hundreds of thousands of people and given the unknowns had we not dropped the bomb. This debate still goes on even today.
Hey Morgan, br Hope all is going well and enjoyin... (show quote)

War is hell... it will never stop until the human race evolves, who knows when that will be. Until then, we have the right to defend ourselves.
Like abortion the only way to stop it is through compassion and non judgment to allow women to want to choose life, to feel support in keeping it, not by taking away their rights to their own body. This is not a governmental issue, it is only played that way for votes.

Doing well thanks hope you are too

As for the Biblical interpretations, I have to respond that they are just that ... interpretations. If you take the Bible literally as the divine word of God, the contradictions that are presented as to 'kill' and other admonitions just can't be reconciled.
If you, contrarily, take a more nuanced view of the Biblical texts, then you are overlaying your own biases, prejudices and opinions into the meaning of the texts.
My personal belief notwithstanding, there is little if any factual proof for either side. We were not there, and we're taking the later (by centuries) word of someone (particularly in the New Testament) that was not there at the time and is quoting an oral representation of those that may or may not have heard the apostles themselves several times removed.
Given that a game of 'telephone' will produce wildly different end results compared to the input, I find it hard to accept that there are not errors introduced into the Bible (either willingly or erroneously) that influence interpretations to this day. Add to that the various translations, and you have a recipe for differences. Translations are notoriously inaccurate.
In the Buddhist theology there are thousands of sutras purporting to illuminate what the Buddha taught ... none of which were written by the Buddha himself. The written version was made only three centuries later, and relied on the oral tradition handed down for generations. Then you had translations from Sanskrit to Hindu to Chinese to Japanese to English (in that order, no less). This leads to misinterpretations that are magnitudes off the mark. Unless you go back to the closest thing to contemporaneous texts, you are doomed to fail in getting an accurate picture of what happened and what was said.
Am I a skeptic? Probably so. But to proclaim any of these texts from any religion as gospel is to get a second-hand version that may or may not be accurate. It flies in the face of logic to think otherwise. But then again, logic has little to do with faith, so I'll let it rest at this point, since it changes no minds and only stirs anger and dissent.

God didn't give us a road map and love letter that we are unable to understand.
The counterfeit Christian religions, pagan in origin as well as atheist have sown the lies of "many interpretations"

Even among the non denominational the Baptist, Four Square, Assembly of God and dozens of others do not have major differences in interpretation and in fact agree 100 % on salvation and major doctrine. 99% agreement on minor doctrine.
The lie of differences in interpretation is the tool to deceive and confuse those ignorant to old Testament doctrine of the prophets. New Testament doctrine of Jesus and the Apostles.

I accept the incorrect translation of the commandment.
However, the idea that the government cannot murder strikes me as somewhat off the mark. If, in our society, it is a "government of the people, by the people and for the people" as Lincoln described it, then we collectively have to take the responsibility for the execution. There is no logical way out of that responsibility. We form the society, therefore we are (however indirectly) responsible for that governmental murder.

In theory that is true, in reality especially in this day and age, that’s not the reality. Take for example Trump, many of us didn’t vote for him, he is hardly controllable even by his own handlers. If he were to attack let’s say some village somewhere, I have had nothing to do with that, yes if I had voted for him.
With that said I do see your point, I only wish it were more true.

I always appreciate your views.
I intended to leave Northern California for Northern Idaho made it for a few weeks but then ended up in Palm Springs which is now in the high 90's, low 100 's and climbing.
But finally next week making my escape from the heat and landing in Idaho.
Looking forward to seeing Elk and moose out the living room window. I'm building and considering putting up an Adobe wall typical of southern California and New Mexico to keep out the grizzly bears. Lol

I think man's nature for war will not evolve but continue with man or end with man. As long as governments equal men in power, power will continue us in wars regardless of what the majority may want
Looking at America's left and right congress /senate they do nothing for the majority and everything to keep and grow power. A silent war of our government against us people

The question is as follows: As a practicing Christian, can you support both anti-abortion and capital punishment at the same time?
It would seem that there is a fundamental conflict between those two viewpoints. On one hand we have the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" (KJV Exodus 20:13), and on the other hand you have the Biblical imperative of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth."(KJV Exodus 21:23-25)
To my way of thinking, you can't have it both ways. I have to give the Catholic church credit for their viewpoint on this, which states that they are against both abortion and capital punishment.
If you take the viewpoint that capital punishment is the act of a society and not the individual, I would posit that capital punishment is an act for which every member of that society is responsible, and therefore is equally guilty of violating the Sixth Commandment.
You also have "Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." (KJV Romans 12:19) This would seem to negate any possibility of either an individual or a society to take revenge on a perpetrator that violates the Sixth Commandment.
How do you reconcile these seemingly contradictory viewpoints?
The question is as follows: As a practicing Christ... (show quote)
Let's put some perspective on this.

In the United States of America:
Since January, 2018, 29 people found guilty of a heinous capital crime in a court of law were executed. These violent offenders were quietly and humanely put to death through a series of three injections.

Since January, 2018, approximately 1 million of the most helpless and innocent among us, without due process and without any defense, were killed before they ever saw sunlight. These defenseless little ones were violently torn from their mother's womb. Their heads were split open and their brains were sucked out, their limbs were torn off, their spinal cords cut.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you . . .
Jeremiah 1:4-5

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
Psalm 139:13-16

" seemingly contradictory viewpoints? "

I do not see them as contradictory. Except in those rare cases where an innocent person is executed, I do not have a problem with executing a school shooter, mass murderer, etc. They are guilty. The suffering they have caused begs that they be fried. An unborn baby is innocent. What have they done to warrant a death sentence ?

How do you justify killing an innocent human being ?

You need to read your bible.

Well done...

Not at all. A Christian should know why that's not true. We are not to obey what goes against God's law.

Acts 5 -
27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, 28 saying, “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us.” 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.

No point to that comment either.

Tommy's wrong about more than that. Zemirah addressed it.

Read your bible with a concordance unless you don't really care what it means.

Thank you Jack, and I, yours.

Oo that's too hot for me, I still want to enjoy a spring. I'm a northern bird and love the cooler weather. That place you're heading for, with elk and moose outside of your window, now that is something I could definitely get into, sounds like heaven. Some pictures of Idaho look spectacular. You're a lucky man.

You seem to move around a lot or am I wrong? I'll be coming to your neck of the woods(the north west coast) in October, visiting Washington and Vancouver, my daughter is marrying a Canadian, who'd a thought. Is this a mixed marriage? Actually she's bringing the family full circle, my grandfather came from Canada. I don't know the family there but I'd love to look them up. She can't become a citizen, even though marrying a Canadian until five years from now. I think we should have something like that.

I'm an optimist, I think compassion is spreading and I have some high hopes for our kids generation, they're letting go of a lot of the old prejudicial baggage.

I never want to believe our government is against us, but if that happens Jack it'll be our own damn fault, the buck stop with us, we will own it, one way or another.

Thank you.
Just finished mother in laws funeral after 12 days bedside. Liver failure from excessive drinking. She was several days in a comma and when she awoke briefly she was catatonic from high levels of ammonia. I prayed she would wake up so I could ask her to ask forgiveness for her sons and ask Jesus to take her. A few days later she awoke and understood what I was saying. She couldn't talk but a nearly inaudible whisper acknowledged her sins asking Jesus for forgiveness. She lead a sad mean spirited miserable life but like the workers in the field some came early morning, late morning and early afternoon and at the end of the day the ones that arrived the latest to work in the fields recieved the same pay as the earliest arrivals. Her being with Jesus is the same as a life long Christian. Maybe not a head full of crowns but her sins bought and paid for by Jesus on the cross. I began talking to her her about Jesus and knowing she was dieing became so choked up I could barely talk, but she fully understood what I was saying.
The next day she was out again and during the previous day had shown no emotions only acknowledged. So I left to get something to eat and when I came back into the room she beamed with excitement seeing me and forced out "Oh, Jack". Her dozen sisters, brothers, nieces, her daughter, husband, a dozen relatives on dad's side came to see her and no emotion but when she saw me.....
Rose it was beautiful and you know why. She beamed with excitement because she knew she was going to be called home by Jesus and we shared the most precious moment the previous day that she called on Jesus. I believe the Holy Spirit spoke to her and confirmed in her heart and mind her destination, next stop Jesus.

It's been a difficult 3 week's one day a doctor saying she was dying and then the next day a different doctor telling us to make preparations for after care, next day dying, next day aftercare and the roller-coaster of emotions that put on dad, daughter and family. Then burial arrangements that changed three times ending in cremation, the clinically mentally ill family members (her sisters and Brothers) drama, and then my wife driving dad to live with us as I'm driving (national Lampoon style) with my dead mother in law, her ashes in an urn wrapped in a pendleton blanket in the seat next to me. Dad losing his bladder having temper tantrums constantly. The journey would make for a drama comical movie script. We have no kids and a cousin said " you guys had a good run, now it's pampers and pudding cups... Lol)

I beginning to get to know you and wanted to share the experience with you and a few other sisters and brothers in Christ.

I think tonight I'm going to sleep and not get up for a few days.
I'm wiped out and think a bit in shock. I had no idea how terrible alcohol is, how many die everyday slowly from liver failure like mom did. Nearly everyday in this very small town /city ten room ICU people die from liver failure. It's a tortured, slow death and how most all alcoholics will die. I was wondering why nothing is mentioned in TV, magazine ads the same way smoking is painted as a painful death from cancer. I know some people must have stopped smoking from fear seeing these ads and when the liver fails from drinking alcohol it causes the lungs to fill with fluid, along with the other organs begin failing. It's really horrific and nothing in ads showing the reality of drinking.

God Bless,
Jack

Thank you for sharing that Jack. Praise be to God that your mother-in-law found Christ!!! That is awesome God put you there to help!

I know its a horrible way to go. But better that than it was quick without her ever getting to know Christ. This life is but a blink of the eye. Now she gets to spend eternity in heaven.
