THE BAG PIPER
Lay down whatever is bothering you, breathe in the fresh air and LISTEN to this story.
Time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of life.
As a bagpidper, I play many gigs . Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Nova Scotia back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man, I didn't stop for directions.
I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight.
There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.
I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play
The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I've never played before for this homeless man.
And as I played "Amazing Grace", the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together.
When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head was hung low, my heart was full.
As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never seen anything like that before, and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."
Apparently, I'm still lost … it's a man thing.

Love it and I needed a laugh right about now. Spent all morning trying to help one of the neighbors goats deliver her kids. when they finally came they were dead, had been for several days and the doe was bleeding badly. She died about a half hour later, and all of us are upset even though we could not have done anything to change the outcome.
So a joke comes in handy.

How sad, I hope both you and your neighbors feel better soon. Even though nothing could be done, it still is a painful experience.

My father was a farm veterinarian way back when, and both my brother and I went on farm calls, so we were exposed to the problems associated with raising livestock and having pet dogs or working farm dogs. No matter what experiences I've had around animals it still is upsetting when something goes wrong
Our close friend in dogs, a long time breeder of Welsh Terriers, and from whom we got our Welsh Chaos (aptly named) told me about how disturbing animal births can be. she had a litter some time ago in which one of the puppies was born without a nose, just a malformed muzzle. The puppy was able to breathe through its mouth and was born alive. She had to drown it, no other choice, but it still was a tough thing to do, even though the puppy would not have survived. And of course she had to take it away from the bitch, which upset the dog and it took her a while to settle down with the other puppies. It is amazing how much more care and concern animals have about their offspring than do a lot of people.
pulled me in hook line and sinker .....good one.....lmfao
About 27 years ago, after the death of my mother, I got a terrible upper respiratory infection and nothing seemed able to knock it out. For almost a year, I went from one antibiotic to another and steroids by the truck load, but it keep recurring. I was given one of those inspirometers to exercise with but the pulmonologist also had me doing all kinds of breathing exercises. I got the bright idea that taking some kind of instrumental lessons would help build up my breathing and decided to take bagpipe lessons. I can truthfully say, I never made any sounds that were even remotely melodic, but the greatest cut came when one of my neighbors sent is wife over to ask me not to practice when he was home.
I have a lot of respect for anyone who can play a bagpipe. It's a very difficult instrument to learn and takes a lot of wind to keep the bag inflated while actually playing the pipe.

When I was a kid, I always thought playing the bagpipe would be cool.

I hope your neighbor's wife at least brought a pie or a plate of cookies with that request. After all one has to practice in order to learn any instrument
