So according to Wikipedia, he had asthma when he was a teenager.

This allowed him to get reclassified.

But in 1968, when the war was raging, he was already 26 years old.

He has no further history of asthma that I can find.

I think he used his white privilege to dodge the draft.

Perhaps he has asthma, perhaps he doesn't. He wouldn't be the only draft dodger, don't forget Captain Bonespurs.

Wikipedia wrote:
When Trump was in college from 1964 to 1968, he obtained four student draft deferments.[15][16] In 1966, he was deemed fit for military service based upon a medical examination and in July 1968, a local draft board briefly classified him as eligible to serve. In October 1968, he was given a medical deferment that he later attributed to spurs in the heels of both feet, which resulted in a 1-Y classification: "Unqualified for duty except in the case of a national emergency."[17] In the December 1969 draft lottery, Trump's birthday, June 14, received a high number that would have given him a low probability to be called to military service even without the 1-Y.[17][18][19] In 1972, he was reclassified as 4-F, which permanently disqualified him from service.[18][20]

I have nothing against draft dodgers concerning the Vietnam war...

It was one thing to be drafted for one of the World Wars... Or to fight a true threat...

Vietnam was neither... Forcing someone to risk their life was wrong....

Not to disrespect anyone who served in the Vietnam War...

Just my opinion that there should not have been a draft....

Yep, Trump used his white privilege to dodge the draft.

But now he's Commander in Chief of the entire military.

And he's doing a pretty good job of it.

He's not officially a draft dodger.

His reclassification is certified and documented.

Which makes it all legal.

I just brought it up because some of our resident lefties whined about Trump's deferment.

Again, it is also certified and documented.

We lost a lot of good people and in the end most of those who hid in Canada etc. were forgiven but the dead were dead. Little children were without fathers and Americans here at home made the lives of the families a living hell. I know.

Viet Nam was one messed up deal. I felt sorry for the soldiers returning home to people spitting on them. That was never right. Most drafted men would rather serve in combat than face prison for dodging. On the other hand, who can blame those who DID dodge? It took a lot of guts to do that.
Did we accomplish anything? Nope. It was a disgraceful end of fighting for America and her soldiers who deserved better. My cousin was a door gunner on a Huey. On his first mission...his very first one...the chopper got popped and all were lost. My aunt offered to pay my way to Canada and keep me up if I got drafted. I can't remember exactly how it was done, but I'll never forget that I was missed, NOT drafted by only 3 numbers.
What a mess it was.

I turned 18 in 1970 and was going to college. My draft number was 42, I declined my deferment, and had to report for the induction physical. Because I had severe asthma as a child I was not drafted. I eventually have out grown my asthma and haven't had an attack in years.
So it can happen.

I find myself agreeing with you over Common Sense Matters on this topic. When I first became eligible for the draft I went for a student deferment since I wanted to complete my education. Ultimately, I left school and enlisted, but I didn't feel unpatriotic about my actions. The difference between the previous administration and the current one when it comes to how the Armed Forces are being treated, both in combat situations and in how the infrastructure is being upgraded and supported is night and day. President Trump respects the hell out of our military and it shows both in how he treats them and how they react to him. If you think he's not an improvement as CIC over the previous President, you haven't been paying attention.

I had childhood asthma and now have an incurable lung disease. You and Biden were among the millions who got lucky.

Trump is indeed the military’s best friend since maybe George Washington.

Strange that the records were stolen from trump's doctor's office after he was inaugerated. Of course they showed that he was the 'healthiest person ever elected'. But no hipa transfer forms submitted--they just came in and took the records.

There were a lot of things that weren't right or fair. In retrospect, we should not have gotten into Vietnam to begin with. It only made things worse. I didn't have to go and I had friends that got drafted. I grew up in a small town where politics were very unfair and one-sided. It was all about who was related to who.
And I was lucky enough to be on the right side of the politics. I was told I was "too old" when guys my age and older were being drafted. I was able to stay in college, graduate and find a good job.

He got five student deferments. His "asthma" did not prevent him from playing football in high school, and at the University of Delaware.
