I can stomach letting him live as long as he is no longer in possession of the nuclear codes and the reins of power.
His special needs create the necessity of careful attention yet he will likely balk at a nursing home. Jail may be the only viable, least restrictive environment. Fortunately, his active imagination can furnish him a firm grip on a belief in the rest of what he seems to need in order to dodge his responsibilities in our shared environment.

President Trump understood that Jeff Sessions took the oath of office one day, and recused himself the next. If Session had an ounce of either honesty or loyalty, he would have advised the president that would be his course of action beforehand (which he surely knew), and given him the option of appointing someone else to be Attorney General.
Special Counsels are both bloodhounds and drama queens, once appointed, they never quit without finding someone guilty of something, even if completely unrelated... and for years inhibiting the productivity of the sitting president and his administration, as they do so.
President Trump understood the effectiveness of his entire term of office was being placed in jeopardy by a man he had just honored with one of the plum positions he had the ability to bestow.
He should have accepted Session's resignation immediately, just as he should have fired Mueller's posterior forthwith.
He is not showing the CEO's clarity of vision he portrayed in his 14 year running of "The Apprentice," and which he had lived for forty years prior to that, in the eye of the public, and it's to his own and the nation's detriment.
After surviving for decades as a New York builder; the only possible fear he could have remaining is for the well being of his family, i.e., Don Jr., for example, being framed for his meeting with a Russian private attorney, which, although not illegal, could potentially be made to appear so.
