Had a Ford Pickup with 3 on the column. Every other straight shift I've owned was on the floor. I miss the hell out of my old '64 F-100. It was even cooler than my '65 'Stang.

Woodglue's was better. Just ask him.

Didja ever drive a truck?

Dodge power wagon in the late 60's, a Jeep truck with a 401 in the mid 70's, I'm driving a Ford Ranger 4x4 with the bigger six cylinder and a 5 spd right now that I've had for about five years. We live on acreage so a truck is needed right now, I'm trying to figure out what to up size to for pulling a travel trailer.

My one regret was not buying a '49 Chevy Pickup in really good shape. It had a '63 motor in it that was almost new. I didn't know they would fit. This was back in '82 when I had a lot more discretionary money than I do now. Back before I worried about stuff like mortgages. I lived in a 10x14 cabin tent for about 3 months in a nice campground and loved it. It was nicer than some apartments I had looked at to tell the truth. Hell, I lived in a teepee for a while in NM.

The opportunity to still drive a manual transmission on a regular basis is rare. Once my Accent dies I doubt I ever will drive another in my life. I actually learned to drive stick 4 years after I was driving. My brother sold me his 1968 Camaro. He used to take me out in traffic and force me to drive it, but that didn't work real well. Once I owned the car and went out myself on quiet streets, in a day I was good. One place I worked, I had to drive a heavy utility truck requiring a CDL license, and they also had a few smaller vehicles that were stick. Gradually almost everything became automatic, but if I never learned stick there was a lot of work I would not have been able to do.

When my wife and I got married, I had a '73 Jeep pickup. Four on the floor, but you only needed three unless you were climbing a tree.
Kinda rymes, huh?
Both of my kids learned to drive a stick in that old truck. Wish I still had it!

Wife's last vehicle, bought new was a 88 Ranger XLT with a 5 speed. She loved it and never considered a car or auto tranny. She let me drive occasionally to take stuff for recycling. Son In Law still has it and uses it.

I learned how to drive a straight shift on a VW bug. My buddy and I went on a double date and he was way too drunk to drive home, so I learned the hard way. (Neither of the girls knew how to drive one either).
Did I mention I didn't have a drivers license yet?

My youngest brother put his into a ditch one time and called a bunch of us to help him. We did not have a vehicle to pull it out, but he said, no we can lift it out. I thought he was nuts, but I think two or three of us lifted first the front end and then the back end onto the road. I had no idea how light they were.
